Alright I know a small portion of you Ng-ers must play Runescape still.

I would put this in video games but this isn't really about the game itself..well not particular details. Anyways, just read on, if you really think this needs a move, let me know any Mods that read this ^.^

What do you guys think about this new Squeal of fortune update, wherein you get 2 daily spins (1 if a non-member) have the ability to 'find' more as you play the game.

A quick note, if you never heard of it, Runescape introduced a "Wheel of fortune" type game update. It's 100% free to use, and you -always- win something, however minor and useless. You wager no items, gold, or other investment just you're time. There is also the opportunity to win some extremely rare, untradeable items, to make sure it doesn't destory the fragile economy

And the real point, if you have a bit of cash you can buy spins in packages.

I personally don't care. If you want to, go ahead I already did. If you don't, then don't.

However there forums are..insane right now. 100's, literally of threads bitching about how there breaking the gambling laws, and all this garbage. I mean there literally frothing at the mouth out for blood. It's sad.

Every argument is either:

You're breaking you're own RWT(Real world trading) rule. And that's not ok. (There not breaking any rules players are just idiots)

You're breaking X state/federal/international gambling law about minors or online gambling. (When they really aren't because you wager nothing and always get something however minor in return.)

Or finally my personal favorite. "When were minors allowed to spam use their parents credit cards to buy spins for a gambling game? Little 12 year olds are going to bankrupt there poor parents because they will buy 1000 spins a day!"

Well not so much an argument they keep spamming a quote saying along the lines, this was on there news several months ago. To the effect of "We don't want a players IRL monetary situation to effect their ability to succeed in game, everyone should be able to have equal chance of getting things"

None of those, either make sense or have any true validity. The wheel can't give you instant game breaking success. There is a chance you may get 1 particularly rare piece of equipment but you're stuck with it. You can't sell, trade, or lend the item. you can also get minor EXP lamps that either give per-determined skill XP or you're choice, but even then it's tiny in the grand scheme of things.

So what do you think.

Well anyone that still plays? Anyone have any thoughts on what I said. I tried to give enough info, so even non players, could give some form of educated opinion.

I'm kind of ashamed of the point in my life when I played Runescape. I couldn't help it, though, I was in like middle school.

Still, I find it hilarious that people are that serious about something so pointless, in the first place.

I use to be a pretty hardcore RS player. There's plenty of better games now though, NG has a strong foot in Ultima Online which is a lot of fun with friends. Honestly it was only a matter of time until micro-transactions were to be released I just wish they would have actually released them instead of a crappy chance game. The game has been long dead since the only thing left to do is grind skills or grind some other shit for a reward.

Well I don't want this thread to become. "I hate RS it's boring, blah blah" This thread is about what you think about this particular update and if you think it's legal, or not.

JaGEx promised the players that there would never be microtransactions in RuneScape.

Suddenly there are microtransactions in RuneScape.

It would be painfully ignorant to not understand the reasoning behind many players' complaints.

Things changed ever since the original owners sold their shares of Jagex. They start trying to look into ways of making as much money out of it as possible such as buying back banned accounts raising membership prices etc.

I started playing Dead Frontier instead of Runescape. Runescape is all level grinding, not much of a game really. It got stale. Plus zombie MMO, what about that isn't awesome??

From what I understand the economy is no longer player driven and now items are at a set rate at which you can trade for.

That's sad and takes all the fun out of what little fun the game had to offer in the first place.

The Wheel thing to is also a bad idea in my eyes. It's just... not fair.

Well sad to say free trade did come back and the economy is still player driven but it reflects to much like our own, the elite assholes control all the major money flow and horde rare items to increase there price then sell them. rich players keep themselves rich and keep others from getting rich by hording all the 'money making' areas. That part is sad.

As for the wheel being unfair? Everyone that logs in gets to play. You can earn more plays by simply playing the game. You can -choose- to buy extra spins but it really won't benefit you and it's not like you can make actual money playing the wheel lots of times.

I haven't played Runescape since late 2007, but I do know that was when Jagex seriously started to fuck the game up.

I played Runescape on and off from around 2005 to 2007. Had some good times, but since I never became a member I never really saw a point in playing it excessively. After a while I lost interest in collecting better items, so I gave away all my moderate quality armor and weapons and just used my fists to kill things, which was kinda fun. Eventually everything became far too strict and regulated (from what I understand, it's even worse now), pretty much aiming the game at a younger audience, so naturally I lost interest.

It made more sense in my head.

Pretty much this, I got into it again a year ago, but only for botting. It just lost what I liked about it, and there are better games now. The game serves no purpose, but just to seem cooler than everyone else and that just seems time consuming and overall bad. Now it's filled with bots, spam bots, and other crap
It was fun though, when me and my friends in the 4th grade played around in the computer lab, can't believe I still have the account from 04.

I left Runescape for actual download games. It was called BOTS, definitely had more fun with it.

I then moved on to several other games.

Now, I mainly play Combat Arms. I'm also a Dead Frontier player however!

Add me, IGN: Kaguzan. I have around 2k+ posts on the forums, but I've been inactive. @-@

What a coincidence, I checked out Runescape for old times last week and saw how much it was improved (graphically). And I was just checking to see if my account is still there.

And then I logged out.

Fun.

Anyways, I don't really have a reason to play Runescape, especially after I remembered that you have to be a member to play 99.9999% of the game.

Runescape is basically a waste of time as most MMOs are. Grinding, leveling, seeing hackers all over the place, etc.

I haven't played runescape in a while, but I'd guessed that this kind of thing would be an event.

It's better that way.
