Free speech should cover it, not because what she's saying is right, but because once you cross that line into prohibiting specific types of speech, the system becomes lopsided and caters only to specific people, not everybody, which is the American ideal. I think that what happened to her is proportionate to the crime.

Yes its terrible, yes racism is bad, but really, what are you gonna do about it? I mean, you cant really force her to have a different way of thinking. Obviously she deserved to get fired, but apart from that, theres not much that can be done to her. Now obviously thats really gonna hurt her chances of getting hired elsewhere, and some people might treat her a bit worse for this, but thats about it.

Saying shit like this should never be illegal, but it is grounds to get fired. Even though she has a right to say what she wants, she will be hurting the man's business by saying it and thus he has to cut her loose.
