How do YOU define an addiction? Apr. 1st, 2012 @ 02:31 PM Reply

This is how google defines it,
ad·dic·tion
âEU' âEU'[uh-dik-shuhn] Show IPA
noun
the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.

I do admit, I depend on weed, A LOT lately, but I don't feel like I have an addiction to it, and it's not harming me in the least, if anything, it's the only reason I haven't completely snapped..

So anyways, my question is, how would YOU define addiction?

As with most words, I find that the dictionary's definition is adequate.

i mean yeah if you're dependent on a substance to feel better to the point where you don't like functioning without it then you are addicted to it. it's not necessarily bad, at least embrace your addiction if you're gonna have one.

You loose control. Said substance controls your life, and becomes apart of your daily routine with said substance being a topic that you constantly think about.

So tell me the difference between a habit and an addiction. Would me smoking be more of a habit then?

that's another nice and brief definition: when you need something you previously only wanted.

biting your nails is a habit. habitually manipulating your state of being with a substance is an addiction.

If, even when completely unprovoked, you feel the need to try to prove to an internet community that you're in control of your pot intake and aren't addicted at all...you're probably an addict.

I'm not trying to prove anything. I just want to know if I'm "addicted" It won't change my pot intake either way

Work with me here, I'm trying help you be less obnoxious to be around. Have you ever had a friend ask you a question that they already knew the answer to, they just needed someone to confirm it, or maybe they wanted someone to tell them the opposite? Do you think you could apply that to this situation?
