About 1/2 way through Act II on Nightmare with a little under 25 hours played as a monk. I love this game so damn much.

I hate to sound like a cheap beggar, but can anyone here spare me a 'Guest Pass' for Diablo III? I won't be able to pick up the game for a while (unless I can convince my parents that they should totally spend those $60) and I really do want to try out the game.

Please and thanks.

Also, when I do get the game, who here wants for form a multi-man death squad and just shit all over Diablo and his minions?

The monk is definitely going to be a class I get to 60 after I'm finished leveling my DH. When I'm in a public game, I jizz my pants when a monk joins me because of that awesome regen ability.

Yeah. I love the shit out of him. Me, my dad, and a friend run 2 monk and Wiz, and we destroy everything.

Anyone interested in starting a Hardcore group?

You guys do realize that this is the first and only Diablo game that will become completely unplayable the moment the servers shut down for good... Kinda like all the modern MMOs!

So what you guys gonna do when that day comes?

My sister gave me a guest pass to try out the game and I find myself to be liking it a lot. My biggest surprise is how my shoddy laptop (in terms of gaming) can actually handle this game. I only warded this off due to expecting high spec requirements for the game but it turns out to be otherwise. I've had a good night with Diablo III so far and I already reached level 9.

Blizzard rakes in billions of dollars each year, and the servers cost much less than you'd think. The servers aren't going to shut down any time within decades.

I don't see how that matters. There's more important things in life to worry about. And million other things to do other than to play online games.

You seem confident.

Just know that the Battle.net servers for Warcraft II, Starcraft, and the first two Diablo games have all been shut down.

But if D3 is (technically) an MMO, then the servers won't be shutting down for at least a decade or more.

Those games were made before gaming really became such a mainstream thing. At that time, only 'Nerds' and people with good internet connections played. Although there were a lot of people on those games, the new Diablo will have a player base larger than all of those games. Also, those games are outdated, they've all received sequels. You can also play Diablo I and II over a VPN such as Hamachi or Tunngle as a LAN game, and you can probably do the same for Warcraft and Starcraft.

Aside from that, thanks to Strength, you beautiful, manly beast, you, I've gotten a Guest Pass and I'm starting the 'Free Version' of Diablo III right now. I'll report back later with my experiences.

What are your specs? My card is an x1550 and it runs just fine, albeit low.
My advice is this, get a guest pass and just try to play unless your PC is utter shit. Im definitely going to be buying this game.

My impressions of the Diablo with the pass: It seems much darker than Diablo 2. It also feels like torchlight a bit. Gameplay is smooth, but my internet connection makes it hiccup every now and then. Dunno about the whole auction house yet, but it sounds like a cool idea.

Im not sure how i feel about the skills and stats though, it's so linear and simple. I like Diablo 2's skill system better. I heard somewhere that you can put your own stats in, but im not sure how.

The items stats are also cool, but it took me awhile to get sorted out. I was just going by straight DPS, but i realized it has other attributes and what not.

Banners are cool, the whole lore button is pretty rad also. If you never played a Diablo game before, this would be the game to start with. The thing i dont like is its more simpler approach. It feels watered down, but its still fun.

Alright so, I return after playing a few hours of the 'Starter' game from a guest pass.

I'm rolling a wizard, level 9 at the time of this post. Holy shit do I fucking love this game. I've just gotten the Templar follower (Playing it Single-Player for now) and I love every moment of this game. The graphics and art-style are pretty, the gear enhancement/progression is nice, the monsters are creative, and the Wizard's arsenal of attacks and utilities is very good. The only nit-pick I have with the game is that all your gear sells for fucking dirt-cheap, while the stores charge ridiculous amounts of money for items. The servers are also pretty laggy, as I get hit with occasional lag-spikes and a random disconnect once, but that'll be ironed out as Blizzard updates their servers.

Can't wait to buy the full package A.S.A.P.

Diablo 2, Warcraft 2 and Starcraft servers are still up and running. Don't know about Diablo 1 though.

I would play this game if the following happened:

1) I spontaneously got $60.
2) If Hughesnet somehow became a reliable internet connection without me having to worry about going over a bandwidth limit.

Warcraft 2 and Starcraft

I thought I couldn't get onto Battle.net from any of those games, when I last checked.

Don't know about Diablo 1 though.

It cannot connect and gives an error message.

The monk is kind of a paladin mixed with an assassin. Anyways, he may make a comeback in an expansion pack.

All but one of the 20th century MMOs are still active. So the age of the game isn't everything.

And yes, I know Diablo 1 is in no way an MMO.

I honestly haven't gotten far enough with a melee class to say for sure, but I do know that I've enjoyed my ranged characters an awful lot.

I tried a barbarian and started having problems when i ran into groups of tougher mobs, as the barbarians play style can be summed up in two words "HULK SMASH!". Then i switched to a demon hunter and found that using traps and dodging made things way easier, and i had a much easier time of things. I quit my barbarian at lvl 16 and my demon hunter is currently 28. So i would say ranged is easier, hope that helps.

Personally I enjoy Ranged classes more. With a the varied skills and utilites of ranged classes, paired with a naturally high DPS, most enemies will be dead before they even reach you, and if they get too close your utilities will push them away, freeze them, blind them, etc...
