To critique your elephant peice:
The anatomy of your characters could use a little more resolve- indicate what is chest and what is shoulder, right now they are kind of blending.
The biggest issue I see is that the feet are cropped off at the ankle. It seems like you're doing a vignette, but for vignettes the crop-shape should be carefully designed and help the illustration. It might work better as a whole if you decide to either crop in closer or farther out. To be REEALLY anal, the elephant's trunk against the tea pot should be pressed up against the handle, to seem like he's actually lifting it.

I'm drawing a scene from Brave. Here's the sketch... So, I was wondering, do you guys draw the background first or do you leave it to the end?
