So I'm about to finish high school this year and I just can't choose what to study.
Don't tell me to choose something I like doing, because I dont really care right now.
I think that all these courses about social sciences, art etc are bullshit, because it doesn't really have any potential in current job market.
I'm thinging about Logistics, transportation, engeneering something that direction.
Any suggestions?
What are You studying ?

Engineering, if you can handle it specifically electrical. Chemistry or Biochemistry(me!). Slightly less science but still good careers economics, my brother was an econ major and once he finished his time in the Air Force (academy grad) he started doing medical logistics.
Avoid at all costs majoring but not necessarily taking a course in philosophy, sociology, PSYCHOLOGY, and biology without any sort of double major or strong math minor.

Meh. Payments are pretty much crap at every field. Unless you find a way to come on top. Depends more on how you do things than about anything else.

Study philosophy, change all your current values to ones that are easier to obtain, don't get a job, sleep on the streets and eat garbage from bins. It sounds disgusting now but once you've done enough philosophy i'm sure you'll be beyond caring about such trifles.

Of course having a good position on the job market after you get your diploma is important, but I don't think you should let that be the all determining factor. If you aren't really interested in your studies and can't enjoy it you probably won't hang in there for very long. From my personal experience, these are typically the people that drop out in the first two years.
So if you ask me, first look at your personal interests, then find the degrees in that pool that have the most promising career opportunities and finally pick one.
That said, I study Aerospace Engineering myself and I think engineering is a very nice and interesting field. You gotta be good with Math and Physics though. If you're not then I wouldn't recommend pursuing a degree in engineering.

Just don't get into psychology. They have the highest unemployment rate by far out of all the majors. Accounting and finance are known to lead directly to jobs. Also, people who have 2-year certifications in plumbing and welding are fought over by employers. Maybe learn a trade?

Mechanical engineering is probably the best choice out of any major right now.

Study film. Become a film major. For the first 2 years you basically learn about film and watch movie clips as examples. Requires basic english and math and overall just fun.

I figure it's good to take computer engineering or something of the like because as time goes by, computers are just gonna get bigger and the job market for people who work on them will grow until the point where they become self aware and attack. Then it won't matter anymore what your job was in the old world.
You look nice today.

even then there isn't really that many jobs in that department, you'd be lucky to find something even in a place as big as Kansas City. freelancing could work though, do a bunch of oddjobs for money under the table.

He has a good point. Trades like mechanics, electrical, plumbing are always in demand if you don't mind travel or getting dirty. If you insisted on college then a safe major like business or anything medical related might be the best course.

If you're talking about what to study as a major, then that should solely be up to you; but just for regular classes I suggest taking at least one from each category such as communication studies, sociology, philosophy, humanities, etc.; basically shit you have to take anyway to fulfill most of the major's requirements because by doing so will make you an overall more well rounded person and thinker.
What ever your major is you have to take more of those classes that fall in your major's category so again, choose wisely because you will eat, sleep, breath whatever your main goal of study is

I'm in College studying to be a psychologist. I figure the job market on that is pretty good because there are always people who need help mentally and emotionally, and I have the time and patience to try to help.

Take a bit of everything until you find what suits you. If you were an artist I'd say figure drawing or a level one design course, but that doesn't sound like one of your interests.

I'm studying fine arts and design. Its very competitive and people have no problem being stuck up. Its a mostly subjective field so if you don't have a common eye you won't make it. If you were like that student that was extra special in art class, or computer graphics, etc, then it might be for you.

Someone who has to ask with only a few months to make a decision as to what to study in college should do the rest of us a favor and not attend, take up class space, and raise the prices for everyone. If you don't know now, then you're not ready.
And if you seriously think college is that difficult, then this is probably why you haven't thought of a degree plan yet.
And for the mention of trade schooling; best of luck learning a trade, only to find out that you need to obtain a minimal license that schooling doesn't truly prepare you for, or get a unionized job where since you just walked in off the street, you'll get your ass laid off before the fat 50-some-odds who consider their job an entitlement even though they cannot do it anymore.

in terms of career opportunities, i always think that engineering is the best among all options, in particular electrical engineering or computer engineering. many institutions (such as banks) need programmers nowadays.
and if you cannot get a job outside, you can still get trained to be a secondary school teacher because you have some science background.
unless you are determined to pursue masters and doctoral degree, don't choos science majors. no future.

Glad to hear this, I'll be starting mechanical engineering in the fall :) I was thinking of electrical, but the college I'm going to doesn't offer it to first year undergrads, so I'm just sticking with mechanical for now. Besides, I heard it's a bit easier than electrical.

Not sure if you're serious but it's almost impossible to get a job as a journalist nowadays. Plus they generally don't even get paid as much as you think they do.

This is because American manufacturing is so bad and in so much demand that we are trading off other countries for our goods which is why our debt is so high and our economy is so bad. Sounds like a great option for anyone who just wants a simple whatever job (excuse my ignorance if there is any, but it doesn't seem like too serious of a job).

I would be a horrible psychologist, I would just start uncontrollably laughing at other people's problems.
