There's a few pages of your opinion on other artists based on posts in another thread, that I found particularly annoying, but Ill stop that here since I'd be guilty of derailing the thread in the same fashion as you have.
So please continue..
Aw MAN. I was such a huge fan of his work when I was younger! I loved all of his sprite animations, and they really made me interested in learning flash! His Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom series was freaking awesome!
Such a shame he's gone, I hope his daughter turns out okay. These situations are so delicate.
I discovered Newgrounds thanks to Randy's animations too. Also, I became a sprite animator for a short time, long ago inspired in his work. Shocking that he died so young. RIP.
From what I understand, he was planning a Zelda's animation (A Link to Chaos) and I think another one. Is possible that some family member send the files, storyboards and/or scripts from those projects to a close animator friend or group? Maybe those can still be finished somehow posthumously.
Hope that I didn't butchered the English language too much.
This is truly a tragedy. One dieing young when one has such great talent is always a horrible thing.
Considering how many people likely saw his movies and took advice to make their own... he really contributed here.
He'll be missed, that is for sure.
Probably most depressing, because I was just thinking of the first time I saw his flash animations a few days ago, and how they introduced me to this site. What an awful loss.
Randy Solem Tribute
I drew this as a tribute, I was going to wait and upload it with another thing I was making but that doesn't look like its going to be done for a day or two.
Randy Solem, 1975-2012 Like many people I was drawn to NEWGROUNDS by Randy's "The Rise of the MK". The quality and his attention to detail still rivals modern flash animations today, and he created them a decade ago. I knew nothing more of Randy, and now I feel really bad that I never payed tribute to him while he was alive, I never got to tell him how great I thought his animations were, or that I automatically give any sprit animation staring mario a 5/5 because of him. I lost two close friends this year, I didn't talk to them that much anymore (I spend all my time trying to make something), I never got a chance to tell them how great I really thought they were as well. I beat my self up about it, I think "man, maybe if I was around more I could have done something to help...". Maybe they wouldn't have died if I had been in the picture, maybe they would have died sooner, who knows... maybe I would have died. Death is inevitable, you can't do anything to change that, so if you get a chance to tell someone how great you think they are, take it, because you may never get a chance again... Truly; M.B. DeathInk P.S. This picture is dedicated to Darrell John Bennett, George A. Moores, and Randy Solem. P.P.S. I was holding off uploading this because I have another tribute I was going to upload today too, but it looks like I will not be finished with it for another day or two, so stay tuned.
I noticed Jewelltoons was listed as dead in the memorial page.
That's horrible, I remember skipping class to watch all his movies once.
Jeez can we just scrap the teen years, they're responsible for more deaths than both the Aztecs and high speed motorways.
Hey everybody, I've lived next to Randy for about 7 years.....living in West Deptford half my life I never really realized how much I cared for him. His death broke me, I sat in my room for about an hour crying and ready to take my anger out on the wall. Then I had to suck it up for school......I will be attending his funeral on Friday, March 23, 2012. I've seen Rielle a few times, so young and already talking, and then there's Dylan, who looked up to Randy so much he was basically lil' Randy. Danielle, who must have been the most hurt. Danielle's mother lives on our block too, she suffered a heart attack just a few months back and Danielle's niece, Tailor (or Taylor, I really can't remember) lives with Danielle's mother. It's good for Dylan and Rielle because they can go there while Danielle is thinking things through. I am Bryce Enderle, close friend and neighbor of Randy Solem III.
I wish you all good luck! R.I.P, Randy Solem
I am shocked! His original Yoshi's Island flash was the first animation I ever saw via the internet. I remember rediscovering him when RotMK Part 3 was featured on the front page. Godspeed to his spirit and remaining relations.

I remember watching this a while back.
He will be greatly missed as his animations aswell :(
Oh my God...
This dude is DEAD???
At age 36... way too soon to die...
Does anyone even know how or what he died of?
This man has made some of the best submissions to our community here but was also a submission to a society...
I will keep what little memory I have of him in my heart from the submissions he's given...
Gone, but never forgotten. He's left a lasting impact on anyone that's been on Newgrounds and whoever had the chance to meet him in life. RIParadise Randy.
How could he died such a young age?

RIP randy solem :(
his sprite animations were my favorites back in the days when i was 14, i still consider his mario animations (typically the ROTMK series) as the best of the sprite animations ever made
Mario Vs Sonic was one of the first interactive flash animations I've ever seen. I did not know that it was created by this master. Rest In Peace.
This is positively depressing. Rise of the MK was one of my first favorites as far as sprites go. Rest in peace, Randy. I'mma miss you.
