Most Badass Mythological Creatures?

So BBS, what in your opinion is the most bad ass mythological creature? Post what you think along with a quick summary of what it is. A picture would also be nice, and you'd only have to go on Google for five seconds! Or maybe you've already got one on your computer as you predicted this thread's existence...

For me, the most bad ass mythological creature is Fenrir, or Fenris from Norse mythology. This is a wolf descended from the god of chaos himself. The gods, knowing he'd take part in Ragnorok (Like Armageddon but for Vikings) chained him up with the strongest thing they could find, (Some dude's hand got bitten off as a result) but not even that can hold him forever.

His sons eat the sun and moon. Yeah.

The vikings believed that upon escaping, Fenrir would then proceed to eat everything. He is so big his jaw touches the earth and the top of his head scrapes the sky. He then eats the creator of almost everything (Odin) and then is finally killed by the creator of everything's son (Vioarr).

Here's a pic.

Are we allowed to include mythologies that were invented for use in works of fiction?

No, it would have had to have been socially acceptable to believe in it at some point in time.

Cyclops is a good example. Long time ago people were terrified of those mofos.

Cthulhu is a bad example. It was created by H. P. Lovecraft in the 1900's for a short story.

Yes, YES!
A decent thread for once.
Not some stupid 'life story' or a biased argument based on opinion.

On Topic:
I don't really know an awesome mythological creature that stands out from the rest. I might think of one soon, but for now Horo (the Wolf Spirit of the Harvest) will do.

don't forget to include pictures, guys!

And Dragons...

I mean, dragons have pretty much EVERY POWERS EVER.

And they're almost indestructible. Good game.

Another cool thing about dragons is that they are present in EVERY culture on the face of the earth. Doesn't matter where you go, dragons are there.

Okay, I'm stuck on greek mythology, 'cuz they got a HUGE number of awesome monsters. I think I'm gunna go with Cerberus though, a giant three headed dog that guards the gates of hell? I think I'll stay away thanks...

Sorry Minotaur, Hydra and Medusa, there's a new sheriff in town.

The Manticore.

Sure it doesn't have badass pictures made like for dragons and griffins and etc, but a more badass mythological creature you will not find.

Its name literally means 'man-eater'.

"It has the body of a red lion, a human head with three rows of sharp teeth (like a shark), and a trumpet-like voice. Other aspects of the creature vary from story to story. It may be horned, winged, or both. The tail is that of either a dragon or a scorpion, and it may shoot poisonous spines to either paralyze or kill its victims. It devours its prey whole. It leaves no clothes, bones, or possessions of the prey behind."

As for most badass mythological creature, my vote goes for the dracolich. It's a fucking dragon skeleton that's "alive".

The same way zombies are "alive"

And it was then that Nyarlathotep came out of Egypt. Who he was, none could tell, but he was of the old native blood and looked like a Pharaoh. The fellahin knelt when they saw him, yet could not say why. He said he had risen up out of the blackness of twenty-seven centuries, and that he had heard messages from places not on this planet. Into the lands of civilisation came Nyarlathotep, swarthy, slender, and sinister, always buying strange instruments of glass and metal and combining them into instruments yet stranger. He spoke much of the sciences - of electricity and psychology - and gave exhibitions of power which sent his spectators away speechless, yet which swelled his fame to exceeding magnitude. Men advised one another to see Nyarlathotep, and shuddered. And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished; for the small hours were rent with the screams of a nightmare.
