For me, I back up my computer and everything important on it (music, pictures, videos) every 3-6 months. All my really important documents and other things get stored on Dropbox as well. I backup my phone (horray for Android and CM7) every 2-3 months (or basically whenever I'm about to play around with any settings or install new themes/apps on it). I really should back my stuff up more often though, especially after the many scares I've had with my laptop, and hearing all the horrible data loss stories I've heard from my friends.
Once a year, twice if I can remember to. And I backup everything.
music = everyday
photos = rarely
videos = never
Never. I live on the edge.
Or I don't have anything valuable on that PC that must be kept at all costs.
Never. Although various "important" files that I have are stored in several places so that I can access them from different machines, so there's usually more than one copy floating about. I probably should back up some of my files, but I reckon I could get by if any of the three systems that I regularly use was to be wiped.

I backup my writings every day, my iPod every month, and my computer never.
I keep thousands of backups for flash files, almost none for the rest of the file types. I value them more than anything else on my computer, thus I have almost 500 on my HDD alone.

academic papers i store on dropbox/evernote/my amazon cloud acct
everything else, i don't care
i sometimes make dvd backups of certain discographies in .alac (converted from .flac and/or CD) if i deem them worthy (new order, the smiths, sun city girls etc), but it's not on a schedule or anything

Am I misunderstanding or are you backing your files up by storing duplicates on the same drive? If so, doesn't this defeat the main point of having back-ups?

All the files instantly get duplicated on an ftp server that has a random encrypted code that changes every hour, which is located on a hardrive in south africa which only me and my lawyer know the location for.
So, to answer your question; My files get backed up before they're even created.
Almost everyday. If there's a file I know I won't have to use for a while, I transfer it to my external harddrive and deletes it of my pc.
Once a week I'll back up my external hdd which has all my kids baby photos and stuff on it.
never. there are few reasons:
1. i'm too lazy to do it.
2. i've got nothing out here that couldn't be reinstalled or redownloaded.
3. something like data loss has never happende to me, i wasn't even close. this was sometimes happening on old dos, but now i don't think so. only if i get some heavy virus and have to reinstall windows i'll do it.

For me maybe every 4-6 months sometimes longer, but even so if i lost it you can always have a computer place like staples or best buy remove everything onto a disk for you even if comp is not workble.

I back up my music as I get it. I backup the rest of my stuff both on my internal 1TB and my external 2TB about once a year. I keep a backup of my entire filesystem.
Every time I create an important document I back it up. Other stuff I backup two or three times a year.

Not much, until recently. I just picked up a external harddrive so I've finally got around to backing up all my old audio and music files. I fried one of my harddrives back a few years ago and lost all the music I had made up to that point, besides what was on the internet already.

nothing on my computer is important enough to be backed up.
NEVER FORGET
Pretend not to care about anything, but be bothered by everything.
You may be fast on the roads but it's no use on the track.
ScaryPicnic made me do it.My letterboxd.
I backup really important .fla files.
I only back up really important files- things I need for College and my CV are kept on the cloud, on my laptop, on the college servers, and on a memory stick. If i had the money, my whole computer would be backed up on an external hard drive, but alas- I am skint.
Ive used 2 external back up drives. One was too small. When dealing with porn and music l, the two most pleasurable uses of the internet, it is important to back things up as often as possible.
The only time I have ever backed up files was before moving to a new computer.

Rarely. Since I store specific stuff in specific separate drivers or USB so no need for backing up. Some very important files I put it in one-time-write optical discs. No need for most program except Netsparker and Metasploit or IDA. I can't afford for 2nd time buying those stuff.
However I encrypt everything. PGP and Swordfish. Every storage hardware I have.
I have no worry or paranoid for virus shit because: I use Linux and BSD distros. Honeypots. Sandbox everything. Custom Android OS (heavily modified for company's security uses).
Robbery, no problem. It would be a hard thing for thief or robber to enter my house without getting a gauge from my humble neighbour's Remington or from me.
I got all of my music/photes and anything else I feel is important duplicated 3 times on 2 flash drives, and external hardrive. and numberous cd and dvd disc. Why? cause I've lost everything thing before. I dont trust this spinning hardrive. I"ll never trust the spinning hardrive.
I'll never get back my orignal fla. files back from years ago due to a spinning... BUT NOT SPINNING ANYMORE HARDRIVE! OH GOD THE MEMORY!!! horrible god damn invention ...
