Horror movies with a good story 2012-03-09 00:12:44 Reply

By the title alone you can probably tell I'm not into much horror (because I'm not a fan of getting annoyed by anticipation genuine and false or jump scares for 2 hours.) Maybe this is unreasonable, maybe not but reccomend me a horror movie with a interesting storyline.

Misery with Cathy Bates and James Caan.

Scared the pants off me when I first took part in watching said scary movie.

The Eye.

Wasn't a scary movie or anything, but I liked the bases of the story.

...Although having Jessica Alba as the main character is a little bit of a downside.

I haven't really seen any other than Splice, it was an okay movie, it was bearable, anyway, and it wasn't really scary.

i have no idea what you mean by best, but i'm going to go with some modern 'engrossing' horror films instead of 'most scary' or w/e

here is a list for you (of somewhat lesser known films, you've probably seen most mainstream films) , my favorite user of ng:

1. Splinter (trailer is not fully indicative of the film)
2. Pontypool
3. Kill List

I hated splice it was so unrealistic and by unrealistic i mean the decisions that crazy bitch made after a monster raped her. I called BULLSHIT also it was pretty boring in general.

You misread I never said best just a movie that will keep my interest despite the typical scares, like the orphan.

my list still stands

all of the stories are fairly original and should keep you interested

all of them are better than the orphan

I Like Stephen King based movies
What exactly are you looking for, history of what in horror, you know?
There is everything, from alien movies and "cthulhu" based movies to reality
horror movies and science fiction horror.
Coincidentally, i was looking for good story horror movies, i sincerely prefer
movies like THE MIST
Cthulhu feelings, you know? :P
The unknowing of what exactly you are dealing with, and things like that.
I like movies with some sorts of realism, that explore human mind and behaviors
Like THE SHINING
There is so much good horror movies!
And games too, like ALAN WAKE

The funny thing is, all of them( the movies i said above, including the game ) are based or inspired
by Stephen King books, or in Stephen King itself, like ALAN WAKE, he is a horror fiction writer, well...
horror fiction just to the moment when it comes to be the reality to him LOL :P

Red State was great.

You won't believe it until you watch each one in the series but Saw.

The first Final Destination had an interesting idea but since you're probably familiar with it now you probably won't like it.

I don't know if Seven, Mr. Brooks, and American Psycho qualify as horror but if they do they're pretty awesome.

I thought May was good but maaaaan is it creepy.

Anything by Corman: A Bucketful Of Blood, The Little SHop Of Horrors, his adaptation of The Masque Of The Red Death, &c. Tremors is amazing, the Shake, Rattle & Roll series, Evil Dead films.

Just watch every horror ever, K?

I saw "the woman in black" recently, up until the end it had a pretty good story.
Pontypool is great too, but I think someone already said that.

The only horrors I can think of with a good story are Scream and anime horrors.

Sorry OP. The only movie I can think of is Se7en and I'm not sure of how good the story was.

Alan Wake is a thriller not a horror game.

In all fairness, every story is terrible.

Yay for Kafka!

I have to say, for a movie from a producer of Saw (and I do think it was the producer, I may be mistaken), it was far less banal.

Still not my cup of tea though. If I want meaninglessness I will stick to Existentialism thankyouverymuchmykindSirandgoodday!

As far as movies, the Devil's Backbone, maybe?

For a series, Hundred Stories, for sure.

I guess most horrors are good for several things other than story, like suspense, atmosphere, visuals, etc.

That's not even a horror movie.

You were just tired of waiting to post that, huh?

I find that Children of Corn and Cujo are the only best King's book-based movie. The rest is shit.

Nope I don't. However I do want to take back that Jack Nicholson did awesome act. The Shining gets deformed by a famed director like usual. Stanley Kubrick was a great director in his pre-The Shining. After that he went downhill with a lot of horse shit matters.

Sorry :P
For Horror, what you guys understand?

And Tremors is awesome! XD
Recently i'm downloading MONGOLIAN DEATH WORMS
in my country they translate as Tremors 4, here is:
"O Ataque dos Vermes Malditos"
Something like "The Attack of the Damned Worms" :P

"SPECIES" is an horror movie, isn't it?
Species has a good story too
Well...lots of woman naked...but a good story yet

And what exactly a Thriller Movie? O.O
Isn't a Suspense or a Horror movie, then what is it? O.O
