TOFA has been renamed to NATA for this year: The NewGrounds Annual Tournament of Animation!
The NATA website is up at http://nata.munchymedia.com/ , where you can find all details including brackets, calendar dates (which will also be on the NG calendar), rules, and more. Check out the prizes for this year on the Rules page, as the prize divisions will be very different from last year. Everyone who gets into the first round will receive a prize, and the further you get, the more you earn!
The contest will begin here in the Animation section on April 16th. See you all then!

That is an interesting idea, but I've heard reviews both for and against it in the past. Perhaps we could do groups of 4 instead of 2, where the top 2 scores move on, or something similar?
What are people's thoughts on this, or should we stick with 1v1 brackets?

I understand completely where Mark-er is coming from. The method he's suggesting really is the most fair way to go about it. Technically the way it's set up now someone that's really good at animating can get paired up with someone else that's really talented while two less skilled people can be paired up as well and in the end the people that deserve to advance forward may not get that chance because they weren't given a fair chance by being paired up with someone marginally better than them when they could be more talented than someone less skilled that makes it to the finals
One possible solution to this could be to arrange the bracket positions based upon Open Round scores. Entrants with higher scores will be paired against entrants with lower scores, which can help "weed out" the more novice level animators early on.

Well there can't be THAT large of difference in skill level between them because....I mean If you put harry partridge up against me it's like....why even try at that point you know? Perhaps the scores should only have 3-4 point difference?

Another valid point, but the counterargument to that would simply just be a restatement of Mark-er's initial argument. These are all good points though, and taking all of them into consideration, there really is no perfect way to organize a bracket that's fair but competitive.
My best suggestion would be to divide all the artists that make it past the open round into four tiers (based on skill), and then have one person from each tier placed into a four-way match-up (with two winners, as stated above.) This way, no one loses hope based on match-ups alone, and no skilled competitors will drop out early on due to being paired up with someone even better.

This is actually a genius way of going about arranging match-ups. I totally support this method
I'm still new to all this, but I will be working on my skills so I can enter this year! :O
Rest in peace Edd Gould, former judge of TOFA 2010.
I'd like to say that on my first go at the tournament, I was thrilled just to have had my work seen by my long-time idol, Edd. His many contributions will be greatly missed.
Yea..Best Signature..Ever.
Well hello there. Last year's TOFA winner was Dave Bruno, one of the prizes was offered by me, being an interview with the winner.
I would like to offer the prize of an interview with The Interviewer as part of the prize again this year if that is okay. For those who don't know what The Interviewer is, it is interviews with famous artists and members of Newgrounds. Here is the complete list of people who have been interviewed.
Well im David its time to try to rape though i know im not super good,... so we will see if i even get time.
Animation I want to be the Best Fucker.
Wow, This is intense 13 days until this begins :D!
I plan on joining this :) Why not right? But, the idea of getting weeded out the first round makes me nervous..
R.I.P Edd Gould, It's awful that the day I got ungrounded the announcement of his untimely death surfaced..

Hey all, it's a week until the internet's biggest animation tournament begins!
A week from now, on Monday, April 16, beginning at 12:00 AM, a new topic will be posted here in the Animation forum detailing the round's rules and deadline. The top 32 scorers will move into the Novice Round and be awarded $15.
Prizes will not be awarded until a contestant is eliminated from the contest, or when the contest ends for the Champion.
R.I.P. Edd. He was a fantastic person and animator, and it was a pleasure to work with him in previous contest years. He will be sorely missed.
