Gonna be honest, I have no idea what "Bootgaze" is. Example?

All submissions will be accepted as long as they're done in some form of metal (And it's sub genres).

It was sort a joke, you know like shoegaze, but with metal. But I'm working on my tune right now and it's more blackmetal than anything

There's too many weird obscure genres for me to know if something like that is a joke... I don't know what Shoegaze is either.

Anyone interested in playing bass on the track i'm working on? It's sorta pseudo-progressive metal. All over the place, but wouldn't really need any complex bass parts, just a nice low end

Is something like this permitted? The lead instrument is obviously the sax, but it's still very aggressive and definitely metal.

What is that? Like... prog... jazz/metal fusion? In any case, yes, something like that would be permitted...

However, keep in mind straying too far from what would classify as metal will risk a disqualification.

This rules sums it up pretty well:

- You may use orchestral/synthetic instruments in your song (if you choose to use influences from other genres in your track); however, the majority of your submission must focus on traditional metal instruments: guitars, bass, drums, and, if desired, vocals. Non-metal intros and outros (for example, an orchestral introduction) are permitted. Submissions that focus too heavily on non-metal instruments may be disqualified at the discretion of the judges.

So while something like that would be allowed, be very careful how far you push it. Any instruments not traditional to metal should be acting as support for the metal instruments, and not the other way around.

If you're working on something you think may be inching close to a disqualification, feel free to shoot me a PM, I'll give it a listen and let you know if you should back-peddle a little bit or not.

Actually, one more note, just to make it as clear as possible... If someone were to submit the song in that video to this contest, I think it would be right on the line, and I'd probably get a few of the judges together to discuss whether or not it's an eligible submission.

The sax is featured very prominently throughout the track, and while the beat behind it is definitely metal... It does feel a bit like the sax is the instrument hogging the spot light while the metal influence is just there to support the sax.

I'll try and give the guitar more of a role - but I'd argue that this is not much more than djent metal with a sax on top of it where the guitar doesn't really act as a lead in other areas of the genre anyway.

As long as it's metal, and the focus remains on the instruments traditional to metal for the majority of the song (I.E. guitars, bass, drums, vocals [optional]), yes, although if you are unsure if something would be acceptable or not, feel free to give me an example, and I'll let you know how far it's pushing the boundaries.

I've been getting a lot of people asking me what classifies as metal and what doesn't... So in light of this, I'm urging anyone that's unsure whether or not what they have in mind is "metal enough" for the contest to shoot me a PM with examples or WIPs of what you are thinking of submitting, and I'll do my best to answer any questions regarding this matter.

I know Metal is a vague term and there are tons of different subgenres, so it can be hard to tell what's acceptable and what isn't... so if you think you're walking a thin line with your submission, don't be afraid to ask about it!

Upon request I can also provide numerous examples of my own spanning across the dozens of subgenres that make up Metal as a whole.

Profanity is allowed, the "- Submissions must not contain material offensive in nature." rule is talking about hate speech or content that would largely be considered in bad taste such as racism, sexism, and all those extremely offensive -isms.

Basically, you can write whatever you want as long as it doesn't cross a boundary where it'd be seriously offending someone.
Generally, the same kind of things that'd get you banned from the forums.

Same here though I'm almost finished with the instrumental part. I'm waiting for the holes in my mouth from the teeth I have had removed to fully heal before I attempt to add some vocal parts into it.
