3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsHey, uh.. Is this thing on? Haven't posted to the BBS in a while... Anyway.
So, I came to screw around on NG as I normally do right before bed, and I was redirected to a "YOU HAVE A VIRUS!! WINDOWS WILL NOW SCAN YOUR COMPUTER!!" load of BS. I have no viruses/spyware on my machine, as I'm pretty finicky about keeping 'er running top notch, and scan on a regular basis. I've done a check, and I don't, so now I'm in a corner here, and would like to ask my fellow NGers if they have seen this.
Throw me a bone here, I'd like to know if my software just isn't picking up something it should be.

I'm pretty sure that's Trojan.FakeAV, which infected my computer recently. Do a scan. It pretends to be an Antivirus software to get your credit card info.
Its one of those fake virus alerts. Tricking you into buying their Anti-virus program and steal your information.
I had this too, so it's nice to know that I'm not the only one, as my thread didn't get any clear replies saying if they'd had it or not.

Yeah that sounds like something called the "Security Tool" virus I believe. It makes it look like your own operating system is scanning itself and finds a virus/viruses. It then prompts you to download software to get rid of it, which is the actual problem.
I wouldn't advise you to download that. It makes using your computer basically impossible and tries to get you to buy false anti-virus software that does nothing. You can remove it, but it's a bitch to get rid of.
"YOU HAVE A VIRUS!! WINDOWS WILL NOW SCAN YOUR COMPUTER!!"
Dude That is Scary and Freakin Messed up.
Yea, I'm not gullible enough to succumb to such a rudimentary level scheme, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen it, or if it's just me.
I am currently in the process of performing a full system scan, so we'll see what happens by the end of it.
Ciao guys, thanks!

People that create viruses to harm your computer need to endure some medieval-style punishment! Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Here is my usual response to users when a thread concerning this problem occurs.
I hope this helps you out.

Strange, it actually happened to me too as I came on. I kinda freaked out and closed the tab.
