Pdw Laws In Texas (machette Mayhem) 2012-02-21 21:08:36 Reply

I've been looking into investing into a PDW. Something that doesn't need a liscense to handle and relatively cheap. Since I can't obtain a Handgun Carrying Liscense until I'm 22, and my house has been undersiege by a petty thief that has been perpetrating my home while I'm away. Obviously, if this coward somehow becomes audacious enough to try a full on theft in the night, I want a weapon with the ablilty to kill this fucker. No stunguns (expensive and nonlethal), no pepperspray (pretty much just pissing off the thief even if it hits, need to be in range, and also non lethal) a lethal PDW that is not a firearm. Get what I'm saying?

There's just a couple questions I have, what should I get, and what are the laws pertaining to those weapons in Texas?

An illegal knife, according to Texas law, is a blade exceeding 5-1/2'' and pretty much what I'm looking for. I've been eyeing a machete, particularly, from Wal-Mart. It's cheap, intimidating, and if needed, could kill the fucker. But is there anything else that could be better? What are the laws pertaining to Machettes in Texas?

The way I see it, if you're a petty thief and you see a severely pissed off man with a large machette, would you run? I would hope so, and that's why I want one.

What if he has a Gun? Well then I'm fucked, but I'm betting this fucker would just have some small blade or a bat or crowbar, I mean, he's a petty thief, he doesn't have the balls to shoot a chicken, let alone a person.

of course, if he does, I'll just drop what ever I have becuase the last thing you want to do is appear dangerous to a coward with a gun. They tend to freak out and shoot out of fear for their lives.

This, also not having a conceal carry license doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a handgun in your home, at least that's how I interpret the law, since I'm not a lawyer I can't confirm that.

I haven't gone shotgun shopping before, but I'm betting that shotguns and rifles aren't cheap at all. So no thanks. If I could afford a weapon like that, I would get one, but they're just too expensive, so I need a cheap weapon, just so I can at least feel safe. Any ideas on something like that?

Well OP it's only illegal to carry the knife out in public. You can have it in your house but not carry it with you. Thanks to the Stand Your Ground law or what ever they call it you can use lethal force to defend yourself if you are at home. If you want a machete I suggest a Magnum Kukri by Cold Steel. It's cheap and will definitely get the job done. You might also want a fixed blade for when they nice and close. A S&W boot knife works well since it's cheap and double edged. If you have money to spend and want something nice I say get a KA BAR.

Post pics and send me a PM because I want to know which knife you bought.

You don't need a permit to have a pistol in your home. You need a permit to carry the thing around, but if it's in your home, then it's totally your right.

Knives exceeding 5 and a half inches are in fact legal to own, just not to carry in public. Machetes are fine, but you want something to get him down quick, not just to be intimidating.

If you are looking for home protection, then get a shotgun. They are relatively cheap ( a good mosberg 500 or remington 870 new shouldn't run over 300 bucks) and reliable. And on the plus side, you only have to be 18 to buy one. Yeah, kind of strange how you can buy a shotgun at 18 and a handgun at 22, but hey, they let you touch the big guns first.

Shotguns are relatively cheap and the second you pull it out it is enough to make some shit their pants. MAke sure you go out and shoot it once or twice to make sure you know what you are doing though.
