I have to say, the decreased functionality with the featured content boxes has hurt my interest in the site. I don't really log on several times a day, but I tend to catch up on everything in one go: checking out the top daily submissions and then the new featured content, which is usually better than the daily winners. With the hard to use content boxes and the still-being-ironed-out bugs slowing down the site, I haven't been logging on as often.

So with the one-vote-per-user system will make the leveling and voting more realistic.
So the current system is fake?

*facepalm* No silly, the current system is not clear if that many people actually voted or the same amount of people voted more than once.

What I mean by "more realistic", I mean that the scores will be determined by every user who voted and not the amount of votes it has. It will help balance the average taste of the community while the opinion of the high class matters more than the noobs (in terms of voting power).

I can't stand the new Newgrounds!

If you can't stand the redesign, then here are two things:
1) You're so use to the broken design from 2007.
2) Because of your traditions, you fail to see the convenience about the new redesign and would deny anything else just for being new and not because of their functionality.

It was just so much better the way it was before!

More like it was way WORSE before. Who would want to go to a site that has unfinished/discontinued features a long with a broken interface? Who?

It's much better to have the Flash Portal split in two Portals (Movies and Games), because in reality, not many people know what flash is. And it's much better not to have the Mature page STICKING OUT IN THE NAVIGATION BAR FOR LOSER BAIT.

If you're one of the few who miss the riff raff, then bare with us. This site is encouraging talent, if you want to be noticed, then you must be talented in something, that way, your blogs will be found in the Artist News. If you're not good at Movies, Games, Music or Art, then please wait for the Lit Portal. If you're not good at literature (writing novels, stories, poems, etc.), you're screwed.

Bottom line, if you don't like the redesign just because it's more colorful and has LIFE, then that's only opinion and it isn't considered an ISSUE.

At 3 days ago, TomFulp wrote: 1) Do you find yourself ignoring the big content showcase box here on the front page?

I've always paid attention to that but I find myself going to the FP less now. Might be because of the lack of text on things.. or maybe it's because everything can be found elsewhere in a less ...jumbled... way.

2) Have you explored the content genre browsing?

No, but that's not something I ever did anyway. I would usually check things on the FP or from the daily/weekly area at the bottom (pic attached). I wouldn't be looking for games or movies, but stuff would catch my eye and I'd check it out. Now it's down from 9 to 3 things... and they don't seem to change. So yeah, I miss that :(

This also makes me wonder if the games front page should be different.... feels pretty static (instead maybe it could have a random selection from the top 200).

As you mentioned in the Art forum lounge, I think random for games, movies and art would be a good idea. MIx things up a bit.

3) Have you been making use of the feed button (the star next to logout) in the header?

Yes! Love it!! I just have lots of adding to do! lol

4) Have you found yourself doing anything more or less as a result of the new layout?

- Deleting quoted text that I have no use for :P

I've seen instances of people being lazy and not bothering to delete it... which can be confusing when what they're saying has nothing to do with what was randomly quoted.

- Editing the url to go here instead of here.

I'm hoping that comes back... as a 2-column for artists layout maybe?!? (pic also attached lol) :D

- Extra clicking to get to a user's posts/post count since it's not on their main user page anymore.

handy info to have at-a-glance when trying to determine if someone is actually an active user or just a poser art thief, etc.

Also... I went through and added (coauthored) everyone on past collabs. VERY happy that that's an option! Thank you!! ...but it makes for a long list on some (45 total once everyone accepts).

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Thanks for asking! ;)

I like the new design, but I find it a bit annoying that you can't see the number of vote remaining before you get your 10xp for the day.

I just noticed something... There are still two different rating systems being implemented: votes (the 0-5 scale) and reviews. But only one score shows up, in the form of the 5-star display. Does this mean that votes and reviews are being lumped into one, score-wise? If not, the two distinct score values are either not showing up or are REALLY hard to find.

If they are being lumped together, how much does each means of rating contribute to a submission's score? And I guess it would mean the end of awards like Underdog of the Week and Review Crew Pick, too. So I'm hoping that's not the case :P

Good God I hate this new design. Newgrounds was one of the few big sites on the internet that hadn't gone all minimalistic and retarded in the Google/Apple style in order to cater to casual newfags who don't know how to use the internet. Even if you were going to change the style simply because the old one was getting boring you didn't have to do it like this. The blurbs next to the featured videos on the main page were always entertaining and the flash/audio portals were the things that made the site iconic and unique. Every time I clicked on them I felt like I was coming home. Now I just get a pair of tits in my face and a bunch of random pictures that mean nothing to me.

I know this will never be changed back, but as a user of 7 years I just wanted to let my disgust for this new layout be known. I sincerely hope this post isn't deleted for simply stating my opinion.

In response to question 1: I never really check out the front page, I've been going straight to the portal for years.

Mixed feelings on the new design. I can see it working out in the end, but it needs ALOT of work yet. It just feels unfinished. The voting acknowlegement error, the fact that blam/save exp is not counted for anything, useful features having been removed, etc. Definetly need the "More submissions by this author" box back. Having a breif description under the submission's picture would be beneficial, as the picture can't always convey the content of the movie/game.

I'm just going to wait and see how it all pans out. This isn't the first redisgn I've been through for NG, I think it might be the 5th or 6th. Just one thing really matters for me, leave the classic portal intact.

At 3 days ago, TomFulp wrote: Early next week you can expect us to unveil new content formatting, based on the discsussion in this thread. The plan is that thumbnails will have a visible title and author on the front page while author and score will be visible on all other pages. Rollover info will include description, genre and content rating.

We have another surprise coming later next week so you'll have to stick around and see what it is! Actually two surprises if you count the new featured game next Friday.

The NG buglist is LONG and the gang has been working their way through it. We are also cranking out mockups for improvements and other tweaks around the site.

There are a few things I'm curious about:

1) If you're talking about the "News & Events" box, I mostly do ignore it, but that was mostly because I skip right to the 'Games' Tab these days.

2) I have been using the genre browsing, and I think it's wonderful. It was the only thing that I really really wanted on Newgrounds, and now I pretty much jump straight to it from the front page.

The one thing I would like to ask for is the ability to set a particular subcategory as 'favorite.' I go through about 4 or 5 clicks before getting to the list I want, and while it's a minor thing it would be nicer if one click would take me there.
And you're right about the 'Date' default. I ignore the list of newest games. Maybe if you could have the option to view listings according to a certain time limit? (today, week, month, year, all sort of thing) That might make up for the lost Top 5 today list.

4) As mentioned, I go straight to genre lists from the front page. I'm not looking at any of the featured games anymore. I liked having short descriptions next to the thumbnails.

P.S. Some of the medals don't seem to be working. Is that part of the bugs that are being fixed? Also, I don't seem to be gaining any points from voting since the update

I don't have much of a problem with the new Redesign other then the badges not working right since the update. I had to do Memohuntress 5 times before getting all the badges for it and I did the new Cuboy: Cubeture 2 got 2 badges then nothing next day continued the ending part again got the game completed badge then started a new game got 3 more badges and nothing again. Before you just had to refresh the page and the badges that you got were rewarded now that doesn't even really do anything anymore.

There's a mature section, only it's not linked anywhere (you have to type in the URL [I can't tell you >:)]). But having a mature section VISIBLY ON TOP OF THE NAVIGATION BAR just makes others mistake newgrounds with plain pornography when it's way more than that. Having a mature section on the navigation bar was just immature. It's a better idea to have it in the collections page instead of using it as part of navigation.

We're actually re-styling the author credits to make the lists more compact while making the Favorite button more prominent. so it should be a win-win. :)

These expanded author lists are another big reason why the "More by this author" dropdown box was becoming more and more of a problem - it would kill the database to pull in submission lists for 45 authors, not to mention barf them out on the page.

Who would even know their is a adult feature section now? Its not in collections that I could see. I had to type a adult series I remember and from there found the "adult feature section. Seems pointless to have R rated stuff if you intend to hide it from whom ever(investors, advertisers, etc...). If you intend to go PG/PG13 then do so. Don't try to make it a a slow process as if everybody is so dumb they wont notice.

But still, the mature section doesn't have to be on the navigation, rather, in the collections. Since you can toy with the ETMA icons during search, there's nothing hidden. Besides, there's plenty of more Adult content than in the Adult collection itself.

Yes but the point is its not even in collections. At least make a noticable link in collection if the true intent is not to hide it. I mean a new member will not just go to search and start finding adult material. They will look in channels, then collection. Not see anything releated to it and think this site does not do that.

The only way to have access to the adult collection is by typing in the following URLs which I slightly doubt many will use:

www.newdgrounds.com
www.newgrounds.com/mature
www.newgrounds.com/collections/adultfeatures.html

Alright, I'd like to retract my previous statements about how terrible the new design is. I overlooked the fact that Classic Portals are available and recently names were added back to submissions on the portals and the main page so that they aren't just a bunch of meaningless pictures.

The background designs are still annoying me slightly but hopefully they'll be changed eventually.. Otherwise I'll have to learn to put up with the unwanted tits blaring at me each time I go to my userpage.

So yeah, the new design isn't bad.

Oh god, again with the pointless complaint about background tits. If you have a problem with having breasts for a background, you must be gay. But seriously, why the breast-phobia? EMBRACE IT. It's something nice to look at when you're bored looking at small titties. Still, cut it out with this dumb complaint already. Having a girl as a background does NOT make you a sissy. It doesn't make you anything. In the end, it's something SUBJECTIVE, meaning, it's not a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

I've just started coming back on NG following a short hiatus and I wasn't expecting a redesign at all. I've had an account here for at least 3 years, but I've been coming on even longer than that, and the site has always looked the same, so I am kind of sad to see the old layout go :((

Nostalgia aside, there are some really practical reasons that I miss the old site. First of all, it was easier to navigate the game portal. Even with the 'browse categories' feature, there isn't as much simplicity as there used to be. Not really a big deal, but maybe you guys would consider putting the categories in the browse feature right on the main page of the game portal, so that instead of "hot games", "new games", "cool games this month". etc (which seems kind of redundant). you could have "hot games" + the categories. Idk just an idea. Putting too much emphasis on newer games is a mistake; half the fun of this site is in rediscovering old games that were made and a lot of games that I play most often are from back in teh day.

Besides that, the only thing that I would suggest is bringing back those trophies! I really miss the daily/weekly trophies and the crew's pick; to see it replaced by a generic star system is sad. Is this gamershood or any of the 2934239 sites that use that rating system? The trophy thing helped to set this site apart.

Overall everything looks cool but....Idk. It's sort of like if southerners suddenly started reading. It's different.

There seems to be some kind of memory or processor leak in the flash that plays on the classic portal page. The longer it's open, the slower all flash on my system plays, including that one itself.

Deploy the... it's a yellow button... it's usually flashing... it makes the engines go... whoosh!

The game navigation is fine how it is, extending the sub tabs with categories will clutter navigation.

Yeah, it's even harder to tell exactly what score does it have. Be it 4.10 or 4.05, they look identical in stars.
