Does the NG BBS attract a disproportionately high percentage of disordered (be it mentally or socially) teenagers?

It often seems this way to me whenever I read the personal stories of some users.

I myself have a mental disorder, although it doesn't affect my ability to socialise or think like a regular person.

Exactly, go on just about any other website and you will find many people who are not "the norm." I myself am though, I'm just an all around great guy.

It's not uncommon for creative people to be slightly eccentric or disfunctional. This site is full of the work of creative types.

Idk. I tend to see myself as a normal person in some ways. I mean everyone else is different, so I don't like saying the word "normal", so maybe the word "usual" guy would fit better. I like to hang with friends, get some party time in there, but I still like to spend time on the internet and all too.

Than again, isn't every fucked-up in one way or another? That's just humans. Newgrounds does have a lot of prime examples though.

It really depends on what the forum is associated with. If I go to a forum associated with podcast's about the progress of human kind ( scientific, culturally etc ) I join a community where most members are actually far more intelligent than me. Which is frankly refreshing since I sometimes give up hope on mankind if I read to much youtube comments ;).
In fact most those guys are so smart I can't even relay the things they say to another person most the time.

Ng board on the other hand is an entertainment site. Which basicly focuses on cartoons, from which the populair movies are not exactly known to trigger our brains :) . So you get a bulk of people coming to the site that are not triggered to critical thinking ( which is no problem as its not its purpose ), who are mostly of young age, who have avatars which are overexaruated presentations of their real life personality who true their hobby lean on the interest or look up to animators who are not rocket scientists either or could even be called emotionally stable. Add some trolls to that and people seeking their small moment of shine by coming up with a untrue but instigating story and you basicly get some messed up conversations.

It's really a shame for me, when I come here I am only interested in topics concerning any reference to either animators, animations or general opinions about the communty surrounding ng. I dont care about some suposed boy portraying as a girl who thinks she got pregnant from getting fingered. So for me the relevant discussions are getting drowned out by these filler topics, which makes me rarely visit the forum in the first place.

Do you lurk the animation threads? I think it's like getting an old bag of seeds and planting so many a day, then checking back to see if they've popped or not. Diversity breeds freedom. All sorts of discordant things can happen. So deal or fold.

This. I wouldn't say the BBS has any more or any less than the rest of the internet on average, although we do have substantially less emo kids than The Society, at least.

I have mental disorders but I am no longer a teenager.
I've been on the BBS since I was sixteen.
So I spent quite a bit of time as a teenager on these forums and once was a mentally disordered teen.
