Cheap Effects - B Grade Movies 2012-02-11 14:49:20 Reply

Something I've noticed more and more when watching the 200 or so trailers before each movie shown in cinemas is that a lot of shit movies are being molested by visual effects. As effects are slowly becoming cheaper and easier to produce, we're seeming to get a load of movies that rely heavily on these animated effects and less on storyline.

Great effects are no longer confined to huge directors, massive stars and big budget producers, they can be replicated quite cheaply these days. That's great for smaller, indie directors, but all I seem to see are horse shit movies that rely solely on the effects to make a movie. Sort of like how Segal relies solely on shooting terrorists for 90 minutes straights to sell movies.

That being said, I fucking love Segal.

This is becoming the case in other forms of media aswell.
For example, video games.

While story in video games have developed more than in the early 2000's, they're starting to regress due to the use of high-grade graphics. Spending all the budget on the poly-visual, and less on the actual script writing.

This may just be my opinon, but none the less.

Honestly the cheap effects make otherwise unwatchable flicks bareable.

I don't think CGI has ever been too important.
