So this drawing I made was for a friend's birthday; it's Canti from FLCL. The figures in the corners were a bit rushed because i had to get this to his house on time for the party! Well I'm sorry for the horrible picture (also taken while running out the door), and I'll get some more stuff posted as soon as possible! Thank you.

The eyeball thing hurts. It hurts to look at. You've hurt me in a way you can never unhurt.

Hurts as in it needs improvement? Or hurts by its subject matter?

Its the first of a three piece thing I'm working on; that one is the 'See no evil,' the one below it is the 'Speak no Evil,' and i have the other, but i have to shop it so you can see it (haven't even inked it yet). And thank you! :D

Hear no evil
(it looks strange because it was done in a very hard-graphite pencil and I have yet to ink it yet)

I really like your line work, it's clean and crisp. Although your coloring could use a bit of work. Welcome to the forum.

So I wanted to get myself acquainted with watercolors so I painted Jean Michel Basquiat...but then it turned out like this. I'm not really done with this and a bit iffy on it myself, but I'd like to hear what you all think.

Trying my hand at balance, I feel it's a bit unbalanced and that this guy would just fall on his back. Maybe if I adjust his head a bit more forward?

I like these last two drawings although the finish of the last one isn't brilliant; it could be a lot cleaner imo.

To me, it hurts because it needs improvement because of its subject matter...

So you're saying that if I want to utilize that kind of subject matter, I should improve the anatomy or more emphasis on a more violent idea or what? I really love hearing critiques so I can improve, so could you elaborate if you can?

I generally agree with you, this is my first real attempt at coloring my pieces so it's not the absolute best thing. I do think I can touch up on it though. And I might redraw it after I have more coloring experience. But thank you I appreciate the input!

So I'm kinda on the fence about how this one is turning out, its the Chestire Cat, but it doesn't feel quite right. Does it look ok for a this stage of the sketch? or should I put some 'fat' on him? I'm not so great with animal anatomy either so some input on that would be much obliged as well...

Sorry if it's too light on the paper, if it is, ill upload one with darker lines...

For what it's worth (not that I'm an expert on animal anatomy) I think the body looks fine. You might consider making the head a little bigger, only because generally speaking, depictions of the Cheshire Cat tend to emphasize the mouth and the eyes. But in terms of it being a lankier Cheshire Cat, I don't see a problem with that.

At least at this stage of the sketch I would say it looks fine.

I think your work show definite potential, there is a really interesting quality to your line work. However I think it is a shame the way you present your things. The image quality is really unappealing and the pictures needs cropping. But please keep posting, you are well on your way :)

Well here is a better version, just thickened up the lines so it's a bit more visible. Taking a look at it, i think I could make the head a tad bigger, I'll get back to you guys once I do!

If anyone can recommend an editing program that would be awesome, photoshop elements doesn't really get the job done for me...

It depends on what you want to do, but I would recommend GIMP or GimpShop, which are both free image editing programs that offer a decent variety of tools to make digital drawings and paintings. I've used GIMP for several years now and I've got no complaints other than the lack of CMYK support. There's a little bit of a learning curve, but it's free and there's lot of tutorials out there.

If you're just looking for something to do some quick image editing like changing the contrast or upping the saturation, I would recommend IrfanView. It supports a bunch of different file types and it offers a quick and easy way to adjust certain levels on a picture. As an example, I'm posting what your latest sketch looks like after I opened it up with IrfanView and used the AutoAdjust Colors function.

so I just inked this up (except for the "Eat Me" cookie). Sorry that this took so long to do, school got ahead of me. I think the front legs might be a bit too short, but I like how it came out regardless. I will color this when I get the time!

Well i haven't posted in a while, but that's OK. I've been working hard on the balancing guy and I believe I gave him some decent shading. I'm working on a background as we speak. Thoughts?
