SOPA isn't over Feb. 9th, 2012 @ 04:53 PM Reply

Because the companies behind SOPA are using international trade agreements as a backdoor to pass SOPA-style laws.

SOPA's supporters are pushing two agreements: ACTA and TPP1. ACTA would criminalize users, encourage internet providers to spy on you, and make it easier for media companies to sue sites out of existence and jail their founders. Sound familiar? That's right, ACTA is from the same playbook as SOPA, but global. Plus it didn't even have to pass through Congress.

Petition

Or rally and protest if you live in Europe, just get the word out.

Surely not given that every week that passes takes a week further away from the time of his prediction (1984).

Also, comparing internet censorship/copyright protection to complete dystopia seems a tad melodramatic.

After about two weeks of hearing about SOPA I stopped giving a flying fuck. If it passes...meh.

Of course its not. The us government has already arrested many people for that even though it isn't law.

Of course I was exaggerating, but I was mainly referring to when the OP said something about "encouraging internet providers to spy on you."

When I first heard about SOPA existing, I heard the notion that the thing was actually not cancelled, but temporarily held off. I'm going to trust this source on what is truly the real outcome. If we have already signed for petitions there, does it matter? Besides, I have heard that online petitions rarely, if ever, win. It's apparently just to easy to come up with fake names and sign as many times as you want.

Well it's a huge deal over in Europe since they were the original drafters of ACTA and been doing it behind the back of citizens for years, and by the time it got known half of Europe agreed to it which really pissed off the citizens. Plus people in Europe have time to protest while we have to worry about jobs.

That map has 5, three in the US and two in Canada.

The us government has so mucb mental control of the people that they all deep down believe the government ain't so bad. We got all the entertainment to keep our minds busy that they don't in most countries. The people are whipped and pascified.

No it's just that in America peaceful protesters get their ass beat if they don't give up after a day or two. Pretty ironic.

Why can't these assholes just leave us alone? Like for real... this is just another pathetic attempt at controlling the internet. Sooner or later they'll just hand somebody 1 million dollars and they'll pass the bill secretly... since that's how our government works now a days.
