this is been what, the third redesign? is there some sort of "every few years we have to redesign newgrounds to make everything feel foreign and force people to familiarize with the website again whilst we shamelessly delay NG chat".

considering the NG chat preview was in trusted black, gray and white; you could just spare the redesign trouble and put up some gimmicky orange-hue filter over it to fit the rest of the website.

There's no edit button because the system is that if you fuck up, you get to live with it.

Oh no, I might make a typo.

I could see edit buttons being abused. Now a post preview, that's what I want

Edit buttons give people no incentive to post correctly. It means people wouldn't have to proof-read their messages before posting them.

Also if there were a debate taking place (which there often is on the BBS) certain users like Insanctuary and his alts BlackHoleLogic and Kaninchen10 would return to previous posts they'd made to try and cover up the various instances of stupidity riddled throughout.

i could give a shit about typos, it's just that a 4-post 30 minute threshold is real annoying and being to cram information into one single post as opposed to having them lying around in various corners of a thread would be a welcome addition.

and in case there are people who take long, petty battles of words seriously on newgrounds, they could always add some sort of reply-history to a post, being able to see what the post was like before an edit was made. i figure an extensive overhaul that spans the whole sight would bring more utility, not just a different color scheme with most of the buttons swapped around.

are you asking me whether i'm just bitching or if i'm just bitching about something in particular?

i could care less about the chat, maybe if it came out a few years earlier i probably would try to squeeze myself into the circlejerk (probably not though).

Edit buttons would certainly help to prevent the problems inherent to "I only read the first post and disregard the rest of the thread" situations where a particular question or idea has been satisfactorily addressed, but it keeps being reintroduced by new posters needlessly.

The integrity problem, though, is probably the strongest evidence against an edit button. People will change their posts to deflect possible avenues of attack while engaging in long-winded arguments, thus destroying the continuity of the argument as well as its validity.

They should have an edit button, but make it only available to users after they've reached a certain number of posts.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Low post users and high post users are already extremely divided with the 10k forums and the 5k Club, why should we increase the division?

retards: we can't have this basic forum feature, it would be madness~

no it wouldn't, no one is going to troll using an edit button that's fucking retarded and for the one guy who does do it who gives a shit? It's annoying as hell not being able to edit topic starts. Add a "this post was edited at x" at the end of an edited post.

I'd argue with you but you are a mod and you sound angry...

I'll just comment on one thing- how many philosophy threads have you visited on NG? Because I have been to so many where the OP claims "I NEVER SAID THAT" but is proven wrong. Now imagine where he is correct when he says that, because he can edit his posts. Not only can he keep his troll philosophy thread going for a long time, but he pisses off everyone on the BBS.

If you want an edit post feature, good for you. Ban me if you want, but I think it's a shit idea that should not be on NG because so many trolls would abuse it to piss everyone off.

There is no edit button because people will just abuse the shit out of it. But, at times I do wish there was an edit button so that I can fix spelling errors when I notice them.

This one isolated incident is worth denying an extremely helpful feature for everyone! This is the same as saying we can't have signature pictures because someone would put a giant cock in it.

Here's a better idea than having an edit button- having enough common sense not to be a retard when you post.

There! Suddenly, you have no need to edit anything.

It is, actually.

This is the same as saying we can't have signature pictures because someone would put a giant cock in it.

Yet signature pictures are different from posts. You can't have a conversation with pictures, and it just hold the same consequences as it would simply changing a sig.

I don't think that's a better idea. I think a better idea is to implement an edit button.

I don't think an edit button is very necessary. If somebody does notice they made a mistake they can just clarify later if they want. And I really do think Newgrounds has enough noobs, idiots, and trolls that is would get abused pretty regularly.

What is so great about an edit button? Why would anyone want one? If you read your post before hitting submit.....I don't understand the desire for it.

its practically been the same for ever and at least us have the ability to change background so I don't have a giant pair of tits hanging out (not like thats a bad thing) it's a manner of professionalism if some of us visit this site at work.

and speaking of a cosmetic looking site it looks like a Pikachu to a raunchy shit over a bunch of Gun Metal.

ITT a bunch of people argue about why they need an edit button and why an edit button is a bad idea, all unintentionally putting forth excellent arguments for a preview post button
