Is Painless Death Possible? Feb. 8th, 2012 @ 09:28 PM Reply

Is there truly a means by which one can die painlessly? Or, is this impossible? By pain, I mean anything more than simply experiencing the sensation of falling asleep.

probably if you were right underneath a nuclear explosion, but even then you'd probably feel the strange sensation of being on fire for a milisecond before you were vaporized.

Well, If you be so kind as to try a few things out for us and tell us how painful it was that would be nice.

Lethal injection, carbon monoxide poisoning, stroke during sleep, etc.

So yes.

I can imagine a gunshot to the head or something similarly powerful is far too quick a death to feel any sensation (fuck-ups excluded). Carbon monoxide will just lure you into sleep from what I've heard. Pills perhaps as well, if you sleep, but you could easily wake up in a world of pain without the proper dosage.

The exit bag is completely painless. Since your body can't use helium you die but because it's odorless and a gas you don't experience any displeasure or awareness of your own demise. You suffocate due to lack of oxygen but your lungs fill with a gas that feels like oxygen so your sensory system doesn't panic while your internal organs shut down.

Yeah, sneak into a car compressor when no-ones looking, and induce a coma. If your lucky, the operator wont notice you until you've been liquified.

There are several other things you can do after inducing a coma, thats just the first one that came to mind

Even then, you still have a few seconds of feeling.

Even when the bullet goes right through your brain, your still capable of feeling pain and everything for a few moments. Your last few seconds on earth are seconds of unimaginable pain. damn.

I think it would happen so fast that your brain wouldn't be able to process the pain fast enough.

So yes.

Lethal injection can be quite painful, the Sodium thipental used in most states is inadequate for anesthesia in humans and the Pancuronium Bromide used as a muscle relaxant causes labored breathing and extreme discomfort in the chest.

Cardiac arrest in your sleep is probably painless.

It would be hard to say, the only people that could answer that are already gone. I mean, even if you're asleep, the pain might wake you up for one split second, before you pass on.

Roughly 5% of people shot in the head survive. I don't really care for those odds. While I'm not disputing a head shot can cause instant death, not all of them are instant.

Nope. The bullet destroys the part of you that detects that pain, it happens so quickly that there can be no conscious feeling.

Cardiac arrest and painless are not mutual feelings.

I think you would vaporize before the nerve signals could reach your brain.

The only thing i can think of that will "Instantly" kill you would be anything going faster than light, such as an overcharged tachyon.

Problem is, we dont have the technology to overcharge, or even stabilize a tachyon particle.

If you whipped up some concoction of pleasurable drugs and some nice little easy going toxin or poison, in the form of some tasty drink, it would be fine.

Do you really think that the human reaction time is around the speed of light or something? A bullet is more than fast enough, if it passes straight through the brain.
