Even when it's popular in the country of origin?

Okay.

Then I guess Saint Seiya is obscure as well

Obscurity is subject to the condition of context.
Among western anime fans, these anime are obscure.

I know only what I've been exposed to.

Just so we're clear, an obscure anime must be an anime that not a lot of people have ever heard about, much less a hit in Japan and/or had airtime in the States. {AS, Sy-Fy's ani-monday}

That said, I personally don't know if these 2 would qualify as obscure, but Chaos; Head and Boku wa Tomodatchi ga Sukunai. {I don't have many friends.} are actually quite decent. Chaos is basically a sci-fi murder story with a otaku as the protagonist, and it goes on from there. Boku is more around the lines of the over-the-top antics of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star, due to it's numerous anime references.

Come to think of it, Sena Kashiwazaki does remind me a lot of Konata Izumi, just with bigger boobs.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

Angel Beats is one of the least obscure anime you could name bar entry level anime.

Yeah, to western fans in the U.S.

It was huge in Latin America and Europe as well. Seriously, what is it with U.S. being behind when it comes to dubbing anime back in the day?

Which is why I argued against the notion of it being "obscure".

I guess Trigun might be obscure. It's really quite charming though.

OH, also, Sgt. Frog. Not because it's good (It was meant for kids) but just because of how it constantly makes fun of Japanese people and pop culture references.

I'm not spending more time on this than I have to.

Trigun's more closer to that than Sgt. Frog.

Trigun anime wasn't as popular as it is in the U.S. but the manga on the other hand did well in Japan. Read the manga and the ending's really weird.

Also, whoever thought that Vash's goofy pacifist personality was actually Knive's before he snapped?

Trigun's pretty well known. It was on Adult Swim, after all.

Not to mention Sgt. Frog's pretty huge in anime so it should never be considered as obscured.

I love that show. I'm not to sure if it is too obscure, but it's pretty good.

I fully approve of this, I love .hack//SIGN, the games are good to.

By going over this thread I've found that the initial goal is to find the most unknown anime and hope to god it's good.

Good luck on that, many people don't know what "obscure" is and about half listed aren't even in that category.

Make that 90%. Its more people posting what they like rather than what is obscure, either that or they dont know what it means.
