This puts a new spin on things.
As far as I'm concerned, this is horrible. I expected abuse of some kinds in small forms, but to this degree?
What the hell is going on over there?

This is what happens when you have thousands of soldiers who don't believe in what they're fighting for?

What the hell kind of statement is that?
So often times it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we had the key...

Re-read it a couple of times and you might understand it.

It seems that recently he's getting hit with a lot of things before election.
I am rather curious to see what the polls are saying about our incumbent and potential candidates. I'm interested in seeing the public opinion right about now, however, it seems the AP and Reuters have opted to say nothing on the subject thus far.

all the campaigning and mud slinging, and I won't be able to vote. if only the elections were two weeks later, or my birthday was two weeks earlier. Couldn't I just have been born premature?

Any kind of abuse is horrible. Do remember though, that charities numbers can be increased from the real ones. Wait for more to come out, and take an average.

As a cynical person I can't say that I'm surprised. However, I'm very worried that a lot of right wingers are going to say that these people deserve what they get.
As for dirty goings on before the election, has anyone noticed how we haven't heard anything about a trial for Saddam, or anything else for that matter? Doesn't he have the right to habeus corpus? (not that we aren't violating that everyday recently)

Saddam is the only person the Iraqui people hate/fear more than the Americans. They can't kill him yet!

I don't hate or fear him. He's become a bigger scape goat than Bush is and I pity the man. I mean did you see how bedraggled he looked when they fished him out? He probably still looks that way.

Nay - no pity for Saddam here. And I don't care if he is currently in maximum security prison being sodomized by Bruno the Bull and Sammy the Snake.
About the only positive spin I could put on the whole scene is - more reason to get the Hell out - now. Regroup - rethink - redevelop the plan of action and execute. Quit wasting time, money and lives in a situation that will not produce the expected results.

Bullshit will he be in a Maximum Security Prison. He'll be held like they held Mandela towards the end: In luxury, with large spaces, doctors, books TV, Radio and all that jazz. They still need him, at least for the moment. If it turns out they dont, they'll just execute him. They need to keep him sweet, and healthy, so that the thought of their former dictator still scares the Iraquis.

exactly! my views exactly. hes (was) a dictator, not just an average iraqi. they would treat him with somewhat of an amount of respect, until he was usless to them. ive stated this in a thread awhile back, and i was just called a dumbass

What the Hell is going on over there is that some rocket scientist put reservists - whose corps motto might as well be 'We suck at everything' - in charge of the prisoners.

I don't see this as much as a flaw in military command, as I do the downfall of goodness in general. Who deserves that sort of treatment? What kind of people would stoop so low as to humiliate, violate and degrade human beings, be they even their worst enemy. We should stop putting labels on this problem such as "US military and political gaffe" and question the fundamentals of society in general. Its a worldwide problem... cruelty, indifference.

Hussien is holed away in a military base in Iraq, waiting for us to get our shit together long enough to slap together an Iraqi tribunal to convict him and sentence him to death.
The one thing force produces is resistance.

The problem is that the US army frontline troops, the grunts, aren't given enough training in the ethics of war. They aren't taught that a hostile is only hostile when he has a gun. If they're captured, they're just POWs and should be treated as humans. They were just doing their job.
Unless they were militia or suicide bombers. I'd probably treat them like a piece of shit, but a human piece of shit. I wouldn't get the attack dogs on them or beat them, and dragging around a hairy naked man by a leash would embaress me.

I agree... but wouldn't you just feel horrible, witnessing that sort of thing every day? What if some of our guys, brothers and sisters, get captured in turn. Will there be some kind of revenge? I hate to think about that possibility.
