He actually had the idea before YouTube, but he thought it would drive too much attention away from the site's main purpose: Flash.

Kinda like when Toxicbomb uploaded claymation, or people that use paper cut-outs or other non-digital media. That's all fine, as it's still animation. But people just uploading stupid shit should just fucking go to youtube already, and later hang themselves. We have enough spam as it is here.

I asked Tom this question back in 2010. He said that Newgrounds will support video in the future, but on an invite only basis. He wants the focus to be on animation since that is Newgrounds blood. I believe that the Video Portal will become a Film Portal and will only be here for filmmakers or those who want a TV show of some sorts.

There will probably be no vlogs allowed if we get a video portal. Also if you want to be some sort of reviewer then the guidelines on what you can and can't do will probably be strict. I don't know I'm just guessing. Newgrounds is a creative website and that's the way they like it.

Also I hope lit portal never comes out, but I guess it will. Long ass TL;DR shits that no one will bother reading but maybe 5% of the people that will frequent the place. It's going to be like the audio portal, but quite possibly WORSE.
