What was your favourite game or favourite arcade.
inb4 Any fighting game.
I remeber watching people play House of the Dead at a bowling alley and finding it oddly addicting just to sit there and watch them get swarmed by zombies, but whenever I went there my favourite game was where one person had to steer a car and shoot a gun, and the other player had two guns and you had to chase some guy down.
If anyone knows what game that was, I'd love to know the name.
I recently played an fantastic game called Tanks, tanks, tanks! and it has to be the best multiplayer arcade game I've ever played. It had a great versus mode where you scrambled around in tanks for powerups to blow up opponents, and the single or co-op horde mode against tons of robot animals was incredibly fun.

It has to be one of the best Simpsons games, and had some damn fine co-op.

I was a big fan of Rabbit Punch when I was little, though, like a lot of arcade games it was completely impossible to progress very far.
The co-op beat 'em ups were also always popular before the fighting game craze. I spent a lot of quarters playing Golden Axe, TMNT, The Simpsons, and X-Men (licensed games were actually good then).
I do love my fighters though.
The contemporary fighting game formula was still a bit off when I first started going to arcades; Karate Champ was about it and it was never that popular. Street Fighter wasn't even a big deal until Street Fighter II came out, then the whole fighting game scene blew the fuck up.
Good times.
This sig is 100% effective protection from all hexes, curses, evil spirits and bad karma. Guaranteed.
The Simpsons, TMNT (1 and 2) and Mortal Komabt were my favorites.
.
Wasn't around when arcades were big, but my first gaming experience was playing arcade games on my dad's emulator.
I'd have to say that my favorites were Galaga, Gauntlet, Frogger, Star Wars, and Midnight Resistance. The rom for the latter quit working, which is sad. I haven't been able to track it down again.
Chuck E .cheese = arcade?
I remember playing a badass 3d Afterburner game from Sega. Then, me and my brother played Time crisis. I just remember this one time, where I kept shooting hostages.
I used to steal quarters from my dad's change dish and ride my bike down to the video store and play the shit out of Afterbuner. The first time I saw Virtua Fighter in an arcade in Okinawa was pretty amazing. The shooters were aways my favorite though. Gunblade NY and Silent Scope stand out as my major quarter eaters, and the Neo Geo 4 in 1 machines.
I'm a little older than most of you kids. My dad owned a construction company and routinely demolished/rebuilt/renovated chain restaurants and chain supermarkets. Long story short, he ended up with several old arcade games. We had Pac Man and Space Invaders in our living room. No clue what happened to them now that I think about it.
I couldn't color inside the lines in Kindergarten but I had the top score on space invaders goddamnit.
I always liked Metal Slug games, the games where you were some sort of flying vehicle and there was always a clusterfuck of projectiles coming at you, and some platformer I played all the time at Pizza Street that I can't remember the name of.
Over here, there is an arcade in the local mall called Tilt. It's been there since I was very young and I used to LOVE going there. I used to play the classic arcade games (ie: Ms. Pacman, Galaga etc.), House of the Dead, CarnEvil, Gauntlet Legends, Killer Instinct regular and gold, Captain America and the Avengers, The Simpsons, Rampage World Tour, any shoot 'em up like 1942 but specifically, Raiden, Tekken 3 and Mortal Kombat 4.
I haven't really seen any of those machines around any more except for those classics and House of the Dead and its subsequent sequels. Now when I go to that arcade, I usually just play HotD, Guilty Gear XX, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, SVC Chaos and Gauntlet Dark Legacy.
I remember a lot of arcade games, but never really played any of the arcade games i saw, except for one or 2 maybe, but the ones i remember the most were these:
The Simpsons
that Indy 500 game or whatever(this was one of the ones i played)
House of the Dead
the really old Tekken
Jurassic Park
Cop Training or whatever it was called
and then all those sport ones, like golf and bowling
Our local cinema used to have a House of the Dead game that we'd always play after the movie finished. The staff were a bit strange about it all though. They'd kick us off and tell us to leave because they thought we were trying to sneak into another film. I enjoy playing those kinds of games. Time Crisis machines are always good fun.
I can't think of ever being in a proper arcade though. A bowling place in Edinburgh that I went to now and again had a small arcade set up in there. It was nothing special and seemed expensive. I don't think it exists any more.
I'd have loved to have seen some of the arcades in their prime. The whole concept of an arcade seems really cool, although I can't imagine they were ever really all that cheap. Price per game is the main thing that keeps me out of arcades these days.

LOL! There are 3 malls with arcades near my home!
I just went there like 5 hours ago and played some SSF4 : AE.
Per game for Tekken Tag 2 is way too expensive for me to play though...
Time Crisis 3
Virtua Fighter
Strikers 1945
Nowadays I only go to arcades to play pinball.
Since almost four years now I haven't been into a arcade but the most recent arcade cabinet I have played would have to be House of the Dead 4 ... To be I think it was one of the first games in the series that sort of challenged me, that and the Gun And manuever mechanics were new.
How did I forget about Dragon's Lair? I did so now I'll say Dragon's Lair, and Space Ace. I never beat either one but I pumped a hell of a lot of money into them. I also have distant memories of playing the original Star Wars game with it's monochromatic pseudo polygons, the trench run was pretty badass for it's time.

Do you live in Japan or something? I thought those arcade units were only in Asia or something.
I do remember this one time on a cruise ship I found a Mario Kart Arcade unit, you know the one with R.O.B and Pacman? It was actually quite good, too bad Nintendo didn't make a wheel (attached to a stand) peripheral for Wii or GC.

One of my most favorite arcade machines when I was young had to be:
Tekken 1 & 2
Dance Dance Revolution
Donkey Kong (pretty rare to find one around these days)
Pac Man (also rare)
Crazy Taxi
Nascar
But my most personal favorite would have to be Crazy Taxi. I used to be play it at a pizzeria when I was 8. I always get a high score on that game in that restaurant. The highest earning I got last time I played the game would have to be 30,236.20 out of everyone who play it. I wonder if someone topped me.

No, but I live in the Philippines!
It is part of asia! :D
I remember playing Guilty Gear, Tekken, Marvel vs. Capcom and Street Fighter with my friends and family when I was in school.
It was fun, even though I always end up beaten ^^;
