Anarchist riot in Seattle! 2001-08-27 16:56:56 Reply

Uh... well... the title pretty much said everything. Anarchist are rioting in Seattle. The only other thing I can say is I thought I knew someone in the riot, but then I realized I had the wrong Washington...

I personally don't believe Anarchy can work. People are not willing to do the work that needs to be done to have a society without any real structure. Plus, with conflict egos, blind devotion, and seriously disturbed people, it would only be a matter a time before a much worst form of government appeared (Radical Theocracy, anyone?). That's not to say that I don't respect other's opinions, but Anarchist have a hell of a lot more faith in humanity than me!

There is no perfect government I belive. Riots don't do much but make a worse name for people, I'm sure many of them were just there for the riot...

Well...they're not there for a summit that's for sure. Anarchists are the biggest idealist that i can think of right now. But starting riots is not going to be the solution, they say they want to be heard, but who's going to listen to anyone who uses violence to get what they want. Yeah I'm sure some will say those aren't real anarchists...they are a bunch of kids out to rebel, the police are being unfair and making them riot, etc. But let's face it...this is what America sees when anarchy is brought up in the news. I guess to them bad publicity is better than no publicity. And once again your "real" message is overshadowed by your actions.

Those people revolting in Seatle where not anarchists in my mind. Since one of the core anarchist beliefs(depending on the type of anarachist mind you) Is the idea that people can do what they want, and by rioting all there doing is trying to inforce there ideas onto people. There no better than some of the governments.

No, by rioting they are protesting against having ideas imposed upon them.

Don't you think tho that rioting is not the way to try and get your ideas heard? theres otherways to try and stop having things imposed on you.

Rioting was an attempt at change, not at getting an idea heard.
