I'm going to buy one of them. Both seem really interesting. Suggestions?

Do you have ME 1? Skyrim is pretty fun, but it did get old pretty quickly for me. It's been a while since I've played it.

shit's amazing

Ehhh.

If you want to get the most playtime out of a game, go with Skyrim I guess. If you haven't played ME1 you might be a little confused when it comes to 2, but at least you won't be affected by how shitty the second's story is.

Skyrim isn't a good game but it's addicting, and Mass Effect is a good short game but has a shitty storyline.

Mass Effect doesn't even have that long of a lasting appeal for me. I'd definetly recommend Skyrim.

Fuck, Skyrim is a long boring, repetitive and simple RPG with barely any story or personality to characters.

Mass Effect is a well lengthed immersive, fairly simple RPG, but the choices you make and the characters you meet all feel like they have a purpose. The combat is actually fun in Mass Effect and you might want to play through it more than once to try a different class or make different decisions to see the outcome in the next game.

If you want something that will hold you in and want you to play the next game to continue with your character that you'll have some attatchment to all while enjoying fun combat, get Mass Effect.

If you want something that will allow you to do the same thing for hours, let you feel like you're not apart of the world, give you a story that you won't give a shit about and will end in the most boring way possible all while giving you boring combat against the same one or two enemies, get Skyrim.

You might like Skyrim at first, but that thing slowly became a piece of shit in my eyes. Especially with everyone saying it's the best game of the year / best game of all time. I can't even see how best game of November 2011 is even close to possible.

Thanks so far!

Forgot to mention that I'll play them on PS3, if that makes a difference. I know ME1 isn't on PS3, but you'll get a special comic that let's you make interactive choices from ME1 so your story feels unique in ME2.

Also, keep in mind that the Playstation version of ME2 gets all DLC for free with it, so that'll add some more gameplay hours.

Still can't really decide what I want. Any suggestions/opinions are still welcome :)

PS3 version? Well if that's the case, Mass Effect 2. Skyrim on the PS3, from what I've heard, is somewhat un-playable when you're about 70 hours in.

Well it depends on what you're looking for, but personally I would go with Mass Effect 2 because I love cinematic games with awesome characters, and games that take place in space (like Dead Space).

Also, I don't have time for a game like Skyrim now. Mass Effect 2 is a bit more guided and less overwhelming. I could play Skyrim for 10 hours and feel like I didn't get shit done. I could play Mass Effect 2 for 10 hours and go on several meaningful and important missions and meet interesting new characters.

That said, both are awesome games.

Skyrim if you like fantasy games and don't mind glitches.
Mass Effect if you like RPG's with shooter and some strategy elements, as well as a lot of hand-holding.
I really enjoyed ME2, but I prefer Skyrim.

So is Skyrim, the hype was ridiculous especially the week before it's release.

I've played both Mass Effect 1 and 2 and enjoyed the shit out of both.
The shooter mechanics for Mass Effect 1 are a bit rough, to say the least, but it gets better as you get better weaponry.

I managed to spend 210 hours on Skyrim the first month it was out, so yeah IMO that's what you should go with. Plus I didn't enjoy Mass Effect 2 very much, it just wasn't really my sort of game.

Do you have PS3? Don't comment if the answer is no. 300 hours and no issues whatsoever.

This pretty much sums up why I couldn't take that post seriously.

There's a lot of graphical problems with Skyrim after the first 50 or so hours of play, it lags to the point where it's unplayable.

Well, I do have a PS3, but never actually owned the game, it has happened though to a few people though. Unless you're willing to start playing ME2 from the first game, then go ahead and get Skyrim.

The hype is justified in the case of many though as I understand there are still thousands of people who have been playing it constantly since it came out. Personally, I found Skyrim pretty underwhelming and a big let down, possibly because I hyped it up so much in my case. I played Mass Effect 1 and 2 though, going into it with no real understanding of the series and I did like the games, but I don't understand how people can claim it's the greatest series ever or anything like that. They're good, just not that good.

Part of it is just how flabbergastingly well imagined and immersive the Mass Effect universe is, from the characters on your team to the junk mail that Commander Shepard gets in his email. I don't know, I think you need to be a nerd to truly appreciate a vast sci-fi universe of realistic design and lore like Mass Effect.

Well I didn't really mean "especially", but yes, the fact that people love it so much does fuel some hate towards it.

Both. Skyrim is open world and very fun, while ME2 has an intense story, massive universe, and really good conversations. Very story driven games, both of them, but they are much different when it comes down to gameplay.

I don't think Skyrim is very story driven at all. It's more exploration driven, and when you explore you see the same dungeons and landmarks.

I think you totally changed his mind with that phrase and a picture.

Anyways, I'm going to suggest ME, I think the replay value is bad in Skyrim, for me particularly. In ME it's pretty fun playing again, choosing different paths and such, making characters with different classes.

In Skyrim, whole game felt pretty much the same to me after my first character. Tried making a guy focusing on magic, found it meh. Doing the same quests all over again doesn't make the game any better, especially due to the fact that most of the quest lines in this game are so dull and linear, there are almost no choices. The only obvious one being Stormcloaks or Imperials, but I didn't really find the will to go through the Stormcloak questline on my second character.

I love Mass Effect but you may as well get Skyrim considering you haven't played the first Mass Effect which takes some of the enjoyment out of it.

Personally though I think BOTH games are a bit overrated (but still fun)
