Oh, I listen to other genres. I just meant that as far as punk is concerned, I don't intentionally listen to a lot of this modern crap that seems to get listed as punk. I was having this conversation with a couple of guys who were around near the origin of the British punk scene and they seem horrified that a lot of these modern "punk" bands are being given that label. I suppose it's all just down to personal preference at the end of the day, but I agree with those guys that a lot of modern punk isn't punk at all.

What exactly do you mean "modern punk"? Crust, pop, D-beat, Grind, the "cores", or what?

For classic punk, which I don't listen to much of, I absolutely adore The Runaways.
For crossover/thrash metal, some bands worth listening to include Suicidal Tendencies, Carnivore, early Type O Negative, Nuclear Assault, early Voivod, Anthrax, Overkill, Municipal Waste, Cancer Bats, Toxic Holocaust and D.R.I.
For GOOD hardcore... Biohazard, Madball, Agnostic Front, Pro-Pain, Propagandhi, Minor Threat, Black Flag, The Cro-Mags, Social Distortion, English Dogs and the very first Hatebreed album.
Just my recommendations. Propagandhi is my absolute favorite punk band.

As in 9/10.
Synth-punk. First band to ever use the term "punk music".

Usually, yes. Not always.
There's some decent metalcore - see Protest The Hero, Between The Buried And Me, Revocation, TesseracT and The Human Abstract.
There's some decent grindcore - mainly early Napalm Death, Carcass, Insect Warfare and Dystopia.
Most CLASSIC hardcore was great. Almost all post-hardcore, and most Hatebreed/Earth Crisis worship hardcore sucks though.
And even though I DON'T consider either of these bands deathcore, both Suffocation and Fleshgod Apocalypse are awesome and i've heard both labeled deathcore in the past - even if I disagree with them being called that. (I haven't found any LEGIT deathcore bands that I like though, lol)
All emocore is shit though.

I say that because Grindcore and the other "cores" aren't often associated with the others. Plus, I feel modern Metalcore/Deathcore has nothing to do with punk, despite having the suffix.

Emocore doesn't even exist. The one band that I've ever heard be describe themselves as emocore are Cave In, which also happen to be one of my favorites from the old metallic hardcore scene.

Hardcore melded with metal to make metalcore, which melded with noise and jazz influence to make grindcore.
But the hardcore roots are the most obvious. So it still "has something to do with it" even though it gained enough influence to become its own thing.

Every copy of any Damned albums or the Scarface movie should be destroyed.

I always considered emocore to be like Black Veil Brides, Escape The Fate, Falling In Reverse and all those other shit bands. I could be wrong, though.

Just a term for any -core band you dislike (Possibly invented by Rummy0). Kind of like Norsecore and black metal. It's not even a genre and can be thrown around more loosely than a your mom joke.

IMO, Emocore and Screamo bands have actually really good music, but shit singing. They think screaming and whining and squealing is a good sound. If they put some effort into it, I'd listen to them.
