JCPenney is changing.

Ron Johnson, who was previously known for developing Apple retail stores, is now CEO of Penney's.

First of all, the company made an ad campaign representing the end of confusing promos and markdowns.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOO!!!

Seriously, did Darth Vader design this commercial? This thing is ripe for potential Internet memes.

Second, the company is planning to change the store into a 100 shops within a shop format, complete with a new logo (again) that will appear on bags and storefronts to represent the new, "modern" JCP.

The new logo...did I just open the Ark of the Covenant?

That's the kind of commercial the gets annoying really fast. Ads for JCPenny after it will probably follow the same format, too.

Like those damned Swiffer ads

What exactly was with the commercial?

Seriously, who even reads these things anymore?

Does anyone under the age of 50 even shop there?

IDK, but one of my Grandma's worked at a JC Pennys, but then she died and they later found her house broken into, all the clothes from JC Pennys stolen back...

That is one of the reasons for the rebranding.

Oh, and yes, there are people under 50 shopping there. I am one of them. I picked up a h62abit of going there because my parents took me there for clothes when I was little.

As for those who don't get the commercial...

The commercial is about people dreading over certain promos.

- Sale was YESTERDAY ONLY.
- 62% off the same clothes a woman bought beforehand
- Sale sticker on top of sale sticker on top of sale sticker on top of sale sticker
- Tons of annoying coupons and ads in the mail

You should probably look at the ad more closely.

I went to a JCPenny store about a day ago so I can tell you. Instead of having to use coupons or go to the store a specific day, they auto-marked down the items. It's a little confusing to me when I type it out, but it made sense when talking with an employee.

Really? I always thought the only people who shop at J. C. Penney are cheap-ass grandmas who buy their grandchildren clothes for Christmas.

Something that they aren't having coupons or sales, I dunno.
I don't like that logo, it aggravates me because I want the damn square in the center.

Seems like a logical move on their part. The commercial seems a bit too much, but I guess that's the thing now.

Also don't really understand what you mean by "100 shops within a shop format"--I didn't see anything regarding that in the linked article.

I don't really care because I don't shop there. I also make rhymes with a side of fries.

I think it means that those people bought those items, and then JCPenneys had them cheaper.

Sometimes the wording in articles is different.

Here's another link, with this quote:

"Over the next three years, J.C. Penney will divide its stores into 100 unique shops, to try to give a specialty-store feeling to the floor."

And by shops, I think it has to do with brands. The Levis Store, Arizona Store, Lee Jeans Store...ok, maybe not exactly like that, but that's how I interpreted the message.

Who the fuck shops for their penniless garbage anyway?

Dillards and Nordstroms are the only department stores that carry things worth buying. Even Macys is shit.

I think there first policy should be to remove the stench

Every time I walk into a JCP I am greeted by the smell of what would seem to be a homeless man's wet shit hiding somewhere far away but still close enough to be mild and dully irritating.
