Tonight on A Current Affair there was this report on some city councillor. This woman incurred parking fines while she was pregnant, and refuses to pay them soley because she was pregnant.
How many fines did she get? Two. Four hundred dollar total. Boo fucking hoo. She's a politician she gets more than enough a fortnight to pay for those damn tickets. She's getting arrested some time this week for not paying the piddly four hundred dollars.
She believes that pregnant women and women with young children should be able to park wherever they like, whenever they like. Because 'it's more convenient for the mothers'. Nevermind the poor truckie making an HONEST LIVING who's got to find somewhere else to park because some seventeen year old slut got knocked up and gets to take advantage of the system.
Besides, women with young kids already get the closest parking spaces UNDER THE LAW, the Law that ALL people fall under - you know those stupid reserved parking spaces for people with strollers? Don't they just PISS YOU OFF? They already get those. And do they ever use them? No.
She's proposing that in addition to the ridiculously large support payments that young mothers already get, they should also steal the parking spaces that us normal folk can't touch and that couriers/buses/etc. need to make their living. Pfft. Have fun in jail - you won't be a councillor anymore, and then you won't be in any position to institute your laughable ideas into the real world.
What does everyone else think?

I think it's more attempts to abuse the system by twisting the law to suit the needs of the few. Incredibly typical of today's society, on both sides. Wealthy Conservatives abuse financial laws and Liberals plead for the fifteen year old slut who had two kids and demands my tax dollars to deal with it.
I share your anger.

That's nuts. Sure, it's more conveinient for the mothers, but unless there are exceptional circumstances, they can walk the few extra metres parking somewhere else incurrs. She should pay the fine.

well in miami this is already taken care of they have pregnant person parking. i personaly find it amusing seen as the limiting factor for most people on there ability to walk short distances is health so if you need to walk a few more feet it shouldnt matter, now if your in one of the supper mall parking lots and your a football feilds length away from the store i could understand the disire to park in a handycaped space but thats the exeption.

Yeah this is a bit much. What I could see working would be to give pregnant women temporary handicap stickers (believe me a 7-9 month pregnant woman has a VERY hard time getting around) but other than that it's pretty nuts.

Let me get this straight...
A city council member got $400 worth of parking fines, and refuses to pay them because she was pregnant when she incurred them?
Sounds like a mental disability more than a physical disability, if you consider pregnancy a physical disability...

People always think that they're the exception to the rule. The woman's arguement is ridiclious. If her pregnancy was such a big issue that forced her to break the law, she should have stayed home, and not gone out in the first place. This, my friends, is a classic example of a stupid person.

Oh look, no one's parked by that "ambulance only" zone near the hospital...pretty damned convenient right?
That woman is one sad imbecil. I hope that she's forced to pay more than her share of fines.

What are you, crazy? I know for me four hundred dollars would be a shitload to pay. Just because you might be able to pay it, doesn't mean shit, buddy.

"city councillor", eh?
Ok, I want to see the amount they get paid and the approximate cost of a decent standard of living where ever this took place. Until then, stop jumping to asinine conclusions.

Like what? Pray tell?

Its easy to see where you're coming from, but racking up four hundred dollars worth of fines is rather careless. She must never have had the intention of paying them in the first place and probably envisionned breaking the law again in the future.

I agree with you, this sounds planned. You'd think she would have learned the first time.

Ignore Red, Ruination - no matter what the subject is, if it's "fighting for the underdog", he'll always agree with the person trying to exploit the government. It's like clockwork. I wouldn't be surprised if he literally threw his money out the window every two weeks in hopes it would help the 'little people'.
The USSR fell. Give up the dream.

If the problem were related to or a cause of the parking violations, it would make sense. But using pregnancy as an excuse for anything is ridiculous.
I mean, if she parked in an illegal space because she was having a baby right fucking now, that would be okay. But... come on, you can think of better excuses. Maybe "I parked over there but it rolled"

It's real humerous how pregnant women expect to be treated: Like each and every one of them is birthing an immaculate (SP) baby from god.
Anyway, it's funny that women think they shouldn't have to walk like a normal person into the store...doctors suggest mild excercise (such as walking ) for pregnant women.

She's almost as crazy as the guy who challenged a ticket because he claimed that the word "STOP" on stop signs was too vague.

Has anyone said anything anti-feminist? Has anyone said anything sexist? Read through the thread, and quote one example where someone did this.
Or is it possible you don't know what you're talking about?

I read it in a book I'm reading, but I'll try to fine some online link. Dunno if I'll be able to but -
It was from1 Francis L. Young, "In the Matter of Marijuana Rescheduling Petition: Opinion and Recommended Ruling, Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law, and Decisions of Administrative Law Judge," US Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, September 6, 1988, p.56

That was the footnote for the book I'm reading. Although I found this supposed online version of Young's report, but I don't see it on page 56. *shrug*

I realize that whatever this thread is, it's definitely not a marijuana thread...so one more and im done.
'In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many
foods we commonly consume. For example, eating ten raw potatoes can result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death.'

The only places I have ever seen parking spaces for expectant mothers are at the gynecologist's office and at baby stores. I don't think there are spaces for them anywhere else. Besides, when a woman got big enough, I don't think she would drive much anyway. The seatbelt and position of the steering wheel would probably be uncomfortable.
But yeah, the whole issue is stupid. God forbid she should take a few more steps to get where she's going. I think she's lazy, as well as stupid for her logic.

You're a perfect patsy, Red - you make it incredibly easy. You may want to throw all your money at the government and demand they fix your problems for you, but I'd rather not have that, thanks.
As for relevance, I think it was perfectly relevant. It was another example of abusing the system, which the woman stated in this thread's example is precisely doing.

I have no idea what in gods name you are talking about.
I asked to see how much whatever petty gov't position she has pays. And I also asked how much it costs to live where ever this story takes place.
I never said she shouldn't pay the two tickets. I just said that it wasn't a small amount of money, and that I don't believe she gets paid alot, unlike what the original poster implied.
Then you start blowing off.
The one thing force produces is resistance.
