Question Regarding instrumentals

is it ok to release a freestyle or rap over an instrumental by someone like drake or eminem as long as you give them credit and don't claim to own the instrumental? Does it have to be entirely self produced ?

For instance would i be able to put this song on newgrounds even though its not an original instrumental?

No, that is against the rules if you want to post the song, you can come up with your own version of the instrumental and upload it as long as all the content was created by you. Just layering your vocals over a copyright protected instrumental will get you banned from submitting to the audio portal.

We do not allow any copyrighted material on newgrounds with or without credit. As a general rule, if you did not create it, it does not belong here.

The only exception is sampling/remixing content released under the Creative Commons License. For the most part this means other stuff on Newgrounds. If you were to choose to rap over an instrumental that was made by another Newgrounds member, then that is fine (Although you must still give credit, and I strongly suggest you ask first).

As mentioned above, should you use copyrighted material in a submission, you will be held accountable. In general, we do not give warnings, as you are expected to understand and follow the rules before your first submission. Should you break those rules, you will be banned, and audio bans are permanent.

I would say this would be a perfect opportunity to collab with someone who want's to recreate the style of the song you want to do. Use it for inspiration, both you and your collab partner. There will be loads of people out there that im sure would like to have someone rap on their track. :)

I apologise for the double post. But I just remembered I have two examples that I never released that im willing to give you if you want to give them a shot. You might not be able to freestyle over them, as they may need some prethought. But then again, you might find it, they are really easy. I have no idea.

Or you could just freestyle to a metronome or something and post it, and someone like me would love to try and come up with an instrumental to fit it.
