Opinions on this shot please. 2012-01-13 09:38:38 Reply

Hey guys I am new here, and busy working on something for Newgrounds as my first Flash project for the site.

Currently doing my first shot of a brandy glass being filled. Would appreciate some feedback on how to get it looking more like Brandy and not Mango Juice all other Criticism Welcomed.

Note: Will be adding Outside splashes maybe some dust particles and a reflection on the table.

Respect to all Animators. Peace.

Looks very good, the fluid is just a bit slow in the beginning.

the form of the water is not natural

It's actually quite slow altogether. If you look at a glass filling up with water or milk or any other liquid, you'll notice it moves a lot faster than that, particularly in the first filling of the bottom area and the falling liquid.

Btw one thing about effects animation is nothing happens all at the same time and/or goes all in the same formulaic direction/distance. It's all randomized, and yet kept to an unseen flow (you've already got the flow part right, now work on the nature of it!). Try making one droplet go further than the rest or one have a higher arc, etc

Of course it all depends on what kind of liquid this is, but for the most part this should be fast. Experiment!

it looks like mango juice cause there's no transparency in the liquid and you've used quite a light brown
brandy has more opacity and a draker tone

but nice animation

Thanks 'fluffkomix', I've increased the frame rate of the whole thing from 25fps to 30fps i think that should have fixed the speed look & feel. Will try something along those lines and add some random flying drops here and there.

I know what you mean 'TheBodaciousAdmiral' but the liquid already is transparent at about 60% opacity, I feel like i should add something onto he background but i don't wanna take focus away from the liquid but clustering the shot. Will adjust the color to something of a darker tone.

Well, Scratching my head here...

I was wondering if i had to animate this in Flash and polish it in Adobe After Effects is that allowed in newgrounds or is it fine as long as the project ends as a swf file? Please excuse my ignorance people.

Thanks to everyone else and specially you two guys for all the advice and notes.

The gradients are inconsistent. For consistency, use the eyedropper tool on the liquid on the final frame, and then re-fill in all the frames. It should lock the gradient for all the droplets.

Also, there's a bit of lag. Too many blurs can slow down the movie. Instead, export all blurry backgrounds as bitmaps so it remains one static image.
