I'm a patriotic American. Trust me.

I'm going to be honest with you and with everyone on the NG BBS: I love the U.S.A. I do not apologize for being a patriot and I love it with all of my heart. I love the U.S. Constitution, the ideas that the Founding Fathers had, and most of what this country has done in the name of freedom.

With that being said, I don't let my patriotism blind me or affect my sense of judgment. If I see that the U.S. has done something wrong, or that certain members of the armed forces have committed a crime or anything like that, I will not hesitate to condemn these things. What those marines did is no exception.

Sometimes, my sense of patriotism is strongly challenged when I see or hear that America has done something egregious or has supported egregious activity to support its own interests. Rather than abandon my patriotism, I have decided that it is best to simply vote for leaders who will make a difference, and a positive one at that. I don't lose faith in my country, but I can and sometimes have lost faith in its policies and the leaders who perpetuate them.

Don't ever make asinine assumptions about people you don't know. Patriotism doesn't necessitate being disinclined to questioning the foreign policy and other policies that one's country may implement. Patriotism doesn't necessitate support of everything that the leaders of one's nation do.

Also not all American fighters are douches, that goes without saying, being in the military doesn't make you an asshole.

Either way, just because "they" do fucked up shit, it doesn't mean "you" (the americans) should do it, you're just getting as low as them. Now while this guys seem to have been messed up by the war, it still is an awfull thing to do. That's a pretty childish thought, "he did it, I can do it also".
