Don't listen to this guy. This is how people end up getting hit. When the sign says cross, you're supposed to check to make sure the oncoming cars are stopped or slowing down enough before you cross. There's an area when the light turns yellow where you either lock up your brakes and have to slam on them and might not make the light and end up getting plowed in the intersection or have to reverse; or your other option is to gun it and slightly miss the red. Besides, in many places it isn't running the red if part of your car is in the intersection before it turns red.

But, in reality, doing that shit is a good way to get launched a couple dozen feet down the road. Many vehicles, especially trucks, do not have the braking capacity to not have to gun it, especially if they are going down a hill.

First of all your "argument" doesn't make any sense. if the roads clear you'd know because you'd be looking both ways as your coming towards an intersection anyway. Do you move like a robot or something?

Second there is such a thing as four way intersections. Ya know where you have to pay attention to the traffic lights as well as the crosswalk.

Oh dear god these. Some knucklehead decided to have a four way intersection with two lanes able to turn right or a left/forward lane with almost all of the traffic going straight, and also have a crosswalk that would let people cross while cars are also turning.

This argument is inane. While the OP may not have been looking completely, he did check to some degree, and the driver still did run a red light. Which is worse, running a red light and hitting a kid in a cross walk, or getting hit in a cross walk when not paying full attention? The blame is between the OP and the driver, but not equally. The driver is clearly more at fault than he. In court, she will lose this case. Not only did she hit somebody, she hit somebody in a cross walk, while running a red light.

Anyways, I'm sorry to hear that OP, I hope you getting better. I've never been hit by a car, but while on a run, a car came roaring out of is driveway just as I was running by. I jumped and kicked off of the hood of the car and kept running, but it scared the shit out of me.

Not saying that it's your fault, because it probably isn't. Needless to say, always keep your eyes out while you're crossing, I myself have almost been hit when some dickhead ran a red light. I stepped back in time, but I didn't catch his license to report it.

Seriously why are people putting blame on the victim in this situation. A lady broke the law and RAN A RED LIGHT while a child was crossing the street and SHE FUCKING HIT HIM!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe he would have been better off if he'd looked better but hindsight is 20/20. You don't expect somebody to run a red light and hit you when it's supposed to be safe to cross. It doesn't matter that he went when he was supposed to but wasn't extremely aware of his surroundings. The bitch shouldn't have put him in that situation in the first place.

I got hit by a car once. And by "hit" I mean pushed to the ground. I was walking on the sidewalk, about to cross the road (probably two metres or something) when I saw this girl in her car stop in front of me on at the stop sign and I saw her looking down, probably texting. I thought, "should I wait in case she's stupid enough to not look up or go because she's probably responsible?" Guess what happened. The car pushed me too the ground, but she realized it and stop. After I got up (no injuries just bruised hands) she was freaking out and I just walked away. The guy standing on the other sidewalk was like, "damn dude you scared her".

ikr, I was getting Burger King with my mum and we almost got hit by some stupid bitch who WAS NOT OBEYING PROPER ROAD RULES and she was so smug and we almost crashed and the other woman just gave us the middle finger and drove off, she was like 18-21 or some shit
