For example, you would find an old man blabbering about, "In my days, we don't have cell phones and I had to walk 200 miles to school..." and all that mumble jumbo. It's like they're living in the past.
I know we all do but it seemed as if some just dwell too much on it. Maybe we'll do the same thing once we hit 65 years of age.
What do you think?

Well I guess some people get orgasms from any form of nostalgia so they keep talking about the " good ol' days "

I know, I mean I can understand why people yearn for the old days I mean I missed the 90s, but there's also some parts of the decade that I don't miss.

Oh yeah, I hear that all the time. "Remember when the BBS used to not suck?"
I don't think it's a matter of getting used to the new way of things, it's just that the old always seems better. Maybe this has to do with some social entropy - who knows. But, think about television for example. How many of us watched cartoons while Loony Tunes, Dexter's Lab, and Ren & Stimpy still aired? How many of us watch cartoons now? There's nothing wrong with dwelling on the past when the past was, quite frankly, much better than the present.

I salute you although we've had like 4 + threads about this lately it's still worth mentioning.

There's nothing wrong remembering simpler times, especially your childhood when things were still so innocent. But one shouldn't just dwell in it cause they might miss the good things of the present.
Weak-minded shadows who aren't worth bothering with.
This is the present.. This is /NOW/. Everything we do /NOW/. Is going to be our new /PAST/. Is going to shape our /FUTURE/.
If we continue living in the past; hiding in the future; not taking /NOW/ seriously..
Yep. [Insert terribly obvious result here]

Yeah, I see a ton of 90's cartoon nostalgia threads as well! It's just one of the best examples for the change in times and culture since just about everyone can relate to it. However, I suppose when it comes to technological advances, it is rather strange to linger on the past.

I think because today, life sucks. I would much rather be back in the 90s as a little kid back home. Life was simple. Now there's too much drama and noise. Also, there will always be people that dislike new things and new ways.
This is my signature. It is a nice signature.
Most of those people hate changes. And we will hear people complaining about changes all the fucking time for generations. They'll be either complain about how great tv shows were in the past or how great old songs are better than the past and how movies were more entertaining than new movies today and even video games saying how the old ones are better and new are too mainstream.
So you better deal with this because these type of people will complain about this for a long time.
You guys, maybe.
I'm gonna be the cool old person that embraces the wave and has FUN.

I know, often times there would be a television shows having an old guy blabbering this and that. In the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons", they have an old guy saying how he was struck by lightening seven times.
Granted what happened in the movie was random, still it's my favorite parts of the movie.
Also ever notice how old people generally have obsessions with kids messing up the lawn? I mean really.

So now we're dwelling on the future?
I would say I'm not really 'prone' to anything. There are changes in the world I like, and changes I don't.

I'm going to be such a crazy old person. I already hate teenagers. I wouldn't want those hoodlums coming near my home either. The lawn is a pretty good place to draw the line.

I reflect on my past in order to revisit the mistakes I've made so that I can be sure I don't make them again. There are sometimes that I get stuck in the past and I dwell on it. But when I finally emerge from reminiscence I believe I've truly discovered something within myself that I hadn't noticed before simply because I had my eyes set too shallow, I had to dig deeper.
So do I think dwelling on the past is a bad thing?
Only if one insists on remaining there. When a person considers their past the present, they have gone too far. But dwelling in moderation in order to experience a sort of limited enlightenment is just fine, so long as it is only done every so often.
TL;DR: No, you fucking read it.
I'd say that the world has maintained a good balance of suck and less-suck throughout history. I mean for a start there have been recorded instances of people bitching about teenagers since the Romans.
I'd take that as a pretty good indication that insisting that today's generation sucks is about as hypocritical as it gets.
i do it all the time, like remember the good old days before young money was around
Yeah, sometimes older people tend to express their memories in that way towards people. Generally, alot of older people know they've spent their youth and they're getting closer to the end of their lives, so they know they're not going to have much of a future. This is why they dwell on old memories and bring them up alot. They've realized they've lived their life, and that was it....And that life was good. So they talk about it in front of people and try to get attention and hope that they can share that memory with other old or young people and get some smiles or some laughs.
Nothing really wrong with that. I also doubt somebody could walk 200 miles to school without missing a couple days while walking there. And why bother walking 200 miles to school when there's closer ones in town or only 10 miles away instead? I know what you mean though. You got your point across. I really don't see anything wrong with old people telling stories, kind of enlightens me and gives me more knowledge. Nothing wrong with that.

I agree. Also, it's not as if the "good ole days" were any good. People from those days just fail to remember the crap that they had to deal with, which is why they think the pas was so much better.
