If all the Girl Scout group cares about is if a person acts feminine, then the transgendered kid should be allowed to join that group. But really, they should call it a "Feminine Scouts" club after that.

Other than that, if the boy is not technically a girl, then he shouldn't be allowed to join the Girl Scouts club because it's only for girls.

I don't see too much of a problem there. Also no point in diagnosing him as transgendered, he's simply gender confused. Give him a couple of more years and see if he grows out of it. If he does then fine, if not then he should see a psychiatrist to see what will be of his teenage years.

The parent probably allowed the kid to do it, not encouraged it.

Anyways, intolerance and stuff. I don't like Boy/Girl Scouts anyways, I know they're separate but Boy Scouts is a Christian organization that doesn't accept gays, so I have no respect for them and it wouldn't surprise me if Girl Scouts was the same way.

A 7 year old boy simply does not have a firm grasp of his identity, or the gender roles that males and females have in this society. Even if the boy liked to play with girl toys, at most that would make him gender confused. To diagnose a 7 year old boy as a transgender is ridiculous, and this is clearly a fabrication by his mother. Since the boy probably does not even understand enough about the biological difference between males and females, how could he ever admit to being a transgender? Parish the thought that he even knows what the word means. I bet that mother has been telling him his whole life that he was a girl ("I believe he was born in the wrong body"), which has clearly messed up this child's self perception of himself.

Gender Identity Disorder in children is more common than many may think, and it appears at a young age more often than not. It is better to combat the condition early and take only professional advice.

Transphobia is very common amongst modern society, sadly I have to live with it. It is getting better, and I have to be strong. Not everyone thinks with logic and reason in this world sadly.

Seems silly, the whole situation.

The leaders disbanding the group entirely over 1 child, that thus-far outside of existing has caused no real trouble, other than moral qualms with those who hate the idea of anything but 100% heterosexual people existing.

And the fact that parents seem to think there 7 year old boy needs to be a transgender. If he was he'd discover it on his own in a few years time. Feels more like mommy has issues and really wanted a daughter over a little man, and will do anything to have one. :/

HE shouldn't be in girl scouts anyway. I joined the scouts because my dad told me about all the cool camping trips and activities he did in boy scouts. None of that stuff happened in my girl scout troop, we did lame stuff that I hated. And guess who COULDN'T join boy scouts? Yeah, this girl. So I don't support this BOY being in GIRLscouts.

And I thought the Boy Scouts had it bad when they had a history of not allowing gay people to join. Speaking of which, I wonder what these people think of lesbians? Maybe LBGT people should simply form their own scouting group that only they can join or maybe one that anyone can join. With that, the boy and girls scouts would simply go out of business unless they wanted to include LBGT people there too.

1. "Diagnosis?" It's not a disease.
2. Gender and sexuality are not the same thing, and it's entirely possible that someone could view themselves as a different gender even before puberty. Is it also possible that this is just a phase and when he gets older he won't identify as a girl anymore? Sure, but who cares? He considers himself a girl now, and there's no good reason for the troop to not accommodate that.

How do you determine the legitimacy of someone's transgenderism? What does that even mean? Why does it even matter? The kid says he feels like he's a girl, so whatever, just let him be a girl!

Regardless of whether he should or shouldn't be allowed in, disbanding is an overreaction. So, you're going to disband the troop, thereby depriving the other girls of a social event they enjoy, just because of the presence of one gender confused boy? That seems rather immature to me.

The general consensus in the medical community as of now is that it is actually a disorder (gender identity disorder), which makes sense. In order to have any legal leverage in situations like these, the person needs to have been diagnosed by a doctor or psychiatrist.

That's the problem I find with this. He's a child. There's no way that he is actually having a gender identity disorder at such a young age. Judging off of the moms comments, she's some liberal PC bitch who saw her son play with barbies and be interested in dresses and then pushed it onto him.
