Yeah looks like you need to make the edge just a little more defined.

OK here is a second attempt to digital paint. Still nowhere near where I want to be and I know this is a long road. Sadly though I only have a few days to travel it. II have been trying to find good tutorials and techniques I can, study them and implement them. Again any suggestions, comments, critiques, pointers and links to tutorials and techniques are not just welcome, but desired. So Please give an old reg an hand here.

Ctrl+Paint has been a good start in my opinion.

So As Pat suggested, I tried to harden up my line work.
I did what I could by using a grid, I can upload it if asked, and penciling in a very crude rough.

Again I can upload that as well. if need be.

From there I used the Reference, included, as a color source and just went with it.
SO Have at it guys.

Where's the other stem?

i think this is a really good study. You captured the textures nicely. But i don't have a clue what the digital painting process is like so idk. Also the more i look at artists on this site the more i feel out of place here.

Yeah that was a major screw up on my part. I didn't realize that the stem was there until way late in the painting. I probably should have gone back and fixed it...
Laziness is another thing I need to work on...

What makes you feel out of place?
We have traditional just as much as digital artist.

Not that.

Everyone here seems to draw anime/video game/manga art. There are some people who don't. Or comic strips etc etc.

I am i guess you can say more conceptual.

I still don't see why you think you do not belong. We are a community of majorly diverse artist. So you should fit right in. Besides this could be an opportunity to branch out in to some new areas of learning for you.
So embrace that, don't feel left out.

Yeah, Hell there's even Crafters floating around here. Freaks with their hand crafted goods ::SHUDDER:: ain't natural! (Kidding) But there is all kinds here. No need to feel left out. Though I am familiar with the feeling, that's why there's a bunch of us making up this community so everyone belongs.

Trying to do that schedule thing again. It worked really well last part of last year but due to some circumstances and some lazyness, I fell out of it. Now I'm giving it another go. I even made a printable Weekly Gant Chart to help keep me on track.

Those Gane charts kept me on task with my projects in college too, huh, go figure.

Anyway I want to "Pencil" in some actual study time a couple hours a week. Some time where I sit back and actually tudy and draw.

sometimes digitally and some times traditionally sometimes both, what ever strikes my fancy at the time.

Anyway I also want to set aside some time independently of the drawing time to reads my many drawing books. Actually read them. Not just skim them or find a chapter that just happens to pertain to what I am doing at the moment, but actually read the thing from cover to cover.
Yeah, I shut off my computer, sit back in my comic reading chair, put on some music and actually read. It feels strangely weird to do that actually.
I'm starting with the book "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" I got it for real cheap, seriously 4 bucks cheap, the other day at Vintage Stock.

My next book will be the "All-in-One Cs3 Photoshop" book, but I fear it will be a bit more boring.

So Hopefully this regiment of practice along with other projects will really help me out. So feel free to comment and critique away.

Lets start with this bit, Yes I uploaded it to the portal, I know that it is that thing I have been doing lately with putting my reference right beside where I'm drawing and trying to draw it from sight, but it is non public so no worries.

Although it might still be a slight infraction of the rules.

The reference is included for convenience, although I guess we could start playing, find the reference Kinsei used today Game!

that might be a fun game though...

So yeah, I'm meaninglessly rambling at this point. So fire away....

So, I'm still working through the "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" book. It has been really helpful book. I find myself doing the exercises multiple times to try and really get the concepts down. I really wish I had more time to work through it more quickly, but thats life right?
After I finish it the first time, I plan to go through it a second time and try and hammer it out in a weekend.

Anyway, About half way through it and working on getting better perception skills. And The current lession is drawing my offhand. So This is about my 4th or 5th redo.
I'm to the point of not using the viewfinder or the other aids provided and just going by sight. I don't intend to ditch those aids all together yet, but they get in my way more now for this exercise than they help. It feels as if my perception has increased a little.
I got a feeling that I will do a couple more of these before I move on to the next step.

In other news I finally got a portable drawing board that has a paraliner. Got it real cheap off E-Bay.

Oh E-Bay, you sexy sexy beast you.

So I plan on being more mobile with some of my work.

Produced another hand, for exercise no big whoop there. But I do like the way these are coming out. I have really begun to find my hand fascinating, With the scars, scratches and wrinkles. It has been a fun strudy. But I need to move on on to the book. So perhaps today or tomorrow I can get something else up other than my hand...

had some trouble getting this one down to size for the forum though.
Guess I should scan some of my early attmpts and get them up for comparison though.

So A Third day of hands. This one really needs to be my last one cause I really need to move on in the book. I think that I have really gotten the concept down though, even if this isn't photo realistic.

A Study of the drawing "Child in a Wicker Chair" by Winslow Homer.

Negative space contour, or something along those lines. It was actually kind of fun.

I just traded my Sister a etched mug for three mini bottles of flavored vodka....

Btw the vanilla one taste kind of like there is dirt in it.... Meh... as long as it gets me drunk, right?

The hell am I thinking, there is no way that will get me buzzed much less drunk... damnit...

It's like a cross between Zane's fluffball, and the monsters from Critters.
