This past week when I've been trying to vote on submissions, sometimes I will be dragged into a fake website that traps you and tricks you into thinking you have several viruses and wants you to "update" (or install a fake security program that is actually a virus like an idiot) you anti-virus software. This is happened to me several times and is forcing me to shut down my computer due to how it traps you. Is anybody else having these problems?

Sounds like you actually have a virus if you are being forced to shut down your computer to regain control.

You have to know your name.

Sounds like you have the Fake AV trojan. Go into your Temporary Internet Files folder and look for an executable with a randomly generated name. Something like A32748.exe or yb34.exe and delete it. Searching wont work as the pc ignores the internet cache no matter if you select hidden files or folders

I have Windows 7, could you write the exact directory? I'm sorry to hassle you.

You should try an anti-malware program like Security Essentials (which is free) and it should clean everything up.

I just went through my entire temporary internet files folder and I couldn't find an .exe file. I sorted by type, and there was not a category for .exe. I still feel that my computer is a virus-ridden disaster at times though. I have a copy of Norton, I need to renew it though...Whenever I can that is.

It might be another case of ads that have redirect scripts in them, like what was going on earlier this year.

Oh and if there is a problem with the site then you should PM Tom and Wade as well. However it does seem like its your computer. I ran into that problem myself. Had to go back to a restoration point and then do a sweep of my computer with my antivirus program.

I'm not sure about the state of Norton now, but it used to cripple your computer's performance pretty badly.

Besides, Avira and Avast are where the party's at.

At the OP, it would be a good idea to do a boot-time virus scan (if your AV supports it) as there's a better chance of detecting and removing any possible viruses you may have if they haven't been activated yet.

AVG is horrible. I know for a fact it detects viruses when none exist. I had a copy of hypercam on my pc and it recognized it as a trojan then I went online to piratebay and looked at the comments and enarly every person said it had no virus when scanned by something other than AVG
