It's certainly possible. An excerpt from the article:Yeah, they SHARE a heart, and you further go on to say separative surgery is possible? Really?
Dahas said that it "would be absolutely impossible" to separate the two heads as their body shares a liver, heart, lungs and pelvis.
"Thoracopagus twins share a heart, which, depending on how closely they are joined, makes it nearly impossible to separate them and save them both. Thoracopagus twins make up about 40 percent of all conjoined cases."
Its NOT possible. there is only ONE heart, ONE set of intestines, ONE pancreas, ONE spleen...you know the organs you need to do the things that keep you alive?
Even if it was possible to separate them, how would it be fair to spend the rest of your life missing half a body? having only one arm, one leg? What kind of existence would that be?
Although I'll readily admit that the chances of survival of the conjoined twins that are the discussion of this thread are slim, but not zero.
I disagree with this doctor. Separative surgery has been successfully performed on other sets of conjoined twins under similar, if not identical, circumstances.
Thats great. Where the fuck is your medical degree that qualifies you to disagree with him? I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion even if its stupid.
Hardly. Provide me with an instance in which siblings were conjoined this perfectly. Literally, it's not even a conjoined baby, it's just a large baby with two heads. Granted, some organs have been duplicated, but this child cannot be separated.Admittedly, I don't think I can provide an example to substantiate what I said earlier. Still, I have faith in modern medicine. Yes, the chances are very, very slim, but medical miracles do happen.
Well, generally, some of the best surgeons in the world are able to deal with these kinds of surgeries. If they can't successfully perform the surgery in Brazil, perhaps the babies should be airlifted to the U.S. or any other wealthy nation to have the surgery performed.I don't think they can successfully perform this surgery anywhere.
Because having skill can somehow magically make up for the fact that you need a fully functional set of organs to live? Because having surgical skill magically gives surgeons the ability to fashion half a human body out of thin air?
These twins simply can't live out their lives like this.
There are plenty of co-joined twins who have lived relatively long lives. Many not as long as the average person, but nevetheless some survive into adulthood and beyond. Who the hell are you to judge whether or not they can live like this?
I don't see these "twins" living very long anyway.I just hope that you're wrong. I know that you're justified to say this, given that statistically, babies that are conjoined this closely don't often survive, but I sincerely wish that modern medicine can save these 2 young children.
These two children don't need saving. For the time being they seem perfectly healthy. And you're an idiot.

I'm not sure what to think. I want to think happy -- I keep thinking about the possibility of sad.

Chances of a prolonged survival in these cases is very slim.

There is no way that baby will live more than a few years. Why do things like this keep making the news? While it is rare, it is not unheard of to have gene disorders when babies are born.

Well at least they'll never get lonely.
But what if one of the heads nods off while the others awake? Sounds like trouble.

I ended up reading an article about the 2 headed girls, who are 19 now. (same ones as another user posted a youtube video for)
Two different heads, but sharing one body. And one of them is engaged to be married.
I'm a bit confused how that will work......

So his spine splits up somewhere? It's interesting to think what might have caused this.

The world is just going to treat them so much differently than anyone else. Someone is always going to be taking a stand for them, or flat out calling them freaks, or pretending not to stare.
On the other head... err.. hand, they will probably be on a few TV shows. I'm envious to an extent. I wouldn't mind some media coverage, and a million bucks for my story.
I wonder what they'll think of the expression, "He was staring at me like I have two heads!"

Because they were the only source carrying the story, after searching for it on the BBC.

The only real difference is that the baby has two heads and shares everything else, whereas the girls are conjoined from the waist down.

There will be someone that wants to get their freak on with them, if they survive that long, I'm sure.

What if they both get married? They share a vagina, that would be very weird!
One husband wants to have sex with his wife but can't because her sister's hubby is in her hole.
Or pregnancy too. just some weird shiit. Sex at all would be strange. Are you allowed to touch the boob that only your gf's sister can feel? Or do you only get to play with one?
The sig that I'm wearin? Awesomely made by Skaren!
Also, I like annoying Americans by calling English football "real football" and American football "rugby".-Lost-Chances

Wait, so they will both be able to control limbs at the same time? Like if one is writing then the other may be able to just take over and jerk the arm first or something humourous? I cannot get my head (that is not a pun) around the whole thing. Though yeah there must be some sport they can excel in if one practices with the legs and the other the arms.

QUESTION: Would they not be considered one person? Or are they truly two people, who just share EVERYTHING BUT THEIR THOUGHTS.

Oh.
Well, in that case, the twins are screwed. I just assumed that there were two hearts that were joined together or something. Same went for the other organs.
I tried.

Actually, medical degrees don't qualify anyone to disagree with anyone else.
I have the right to disagree with him, given that I'm endowed with the power of forming an opinion.
I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion even if its stupid.
It's stupid to think that medical miracles can still occur?
OK then.
Because having skill can somehow magically make up for the fact that you need a fully functional set of organs to live? Because having surgical skill magically gives surgeons the ability to fashion half a human body out of thin air?Hardly. Provide me with an instance in which siblings were conjoined this perfectly. And even if they seem perfectly healthy, that won't last for long. Something needs to be done. Either letting them die or trying to save them.
Try to respect others with differing opinions from yours. I mean, you look like an angry retard when you call others idiots simply because they think that a couple of infants still have a chance at living a normal life, only to be mistaken. I've admitted to the mistake that I've made. I would've imagined that you'd correct me, as you have, and nothing more. But no, you took it one step further to call me an idiot for the dumbest reason.

When it comes to medical technology and surgical skills, the U.S. is #1.
It's the lack of access to the healthcare system that needs to be fixed.
Admittedly, I don't think I can provide an example to substantiate what I said earlier. Still, I have faith in modern medicine.mfw
Wait, so my failure to provide an example somehow diminishes the validity of my claims? OK then.
I'd like to think that medicine has come a long way since the beginning of the 20th century and since the middle ages. Apparently, you think it's reasonable to ridicule someone who thinks that modern medicine can still accomplish great things.
I've already stated that I made a mistake in my first post, that these children have one set of organs, not two sets that are conjoined. As such, it's impossible to separate them safely.
Why not read through my post a little more and correct me if I'm wrong(Which, apparently, I am), as opposed to dismissing me so childishly?
