My external disk needs to have the letter E:
I removed it, and now when I plug it in, it takes the letter L:, which causes major directory related problems.
I tried to change it through My Computer>right click>administrate (?) but the letter E: was taken by the DVD Unit, which does not appear in there, thus I can't change it.
Anyone knows how I fix this?
Pretend not to care about anything, but be bothered by everything.
You may be fast on the roads but it's no use on the track.

Well. the thing about it is. when your using a usb linked hard drive. it will change letters for the simple fact it's not pluged into the machine. a hard drive that is in the machine will have designation. now i'm not really 100 percent clear on it. but i have the same issue with my cell. and that's what i'm only basing it on.

The only possible problem is that the E: drive is taken. Disconnecting the DVD unit (by disabling it through whatever means necessary) will leave the E: drive vacant, and so you can connect your external hard drive to that E: drive. Google 'disconnecting drives' because I don't know how.

Slint, are you running Windows 7? If so, you should be able to use the Disk Management tool to alter the drive letters of both the DVD drive and your external hard drive.
Instead of trying to explain this I'll provide this link: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/h t/change-drive-letters-windows-7.htm

In that case, here is a link to a support page from Microsoft. Should lead you in the right direction.

If possible you could probably disable the DVD Unit and enable it once you are done setting up your hard drive
Now I never had to try anything like this or had any experience so if you're going to try something along those lines consult a reliable source
