Remember profits are their main goal.

Top 5 reasons why consumerism rules:
1. An ever-expanding availability of goods is beneficial to the economy.
2. An ever-expanding availability of goods theoretically eases the lives of everyday citizens from the ground up.
3. Providing that the availability of goods continues to expand, jobs exist.
4. The consumer is able to effectively vote democratically (i.e. with their wallet) on what goods and services he or she wants to see more of.
5. People who might otherwise be inclined to commit crime in order to get what they want are discouraged from doing so by the constant lowering of prices.
OP, did you get fired from your big corporate job?

What your talking about is social engineering. they want to stear this country in this way. so this way it's a communism state. look at russia. there the same way. blame capitalism. blame every one for there failures but them selves. the big companies what us to live in poverty. they want us to tax what's left of the middle class. ie wall street protesters. it's hard to really go into it. but yea your right though.

Excellent reasons! More than what I expected the average Newgrounds user to post.
Reason No. 4 resonates the most with me and it's one of the reasons why I feel that the occupy movement is a bit redundant. They've proven that they could mobilize into a large group of people and successfully protest for extended periods of time but, they've all got to return home eventually. And what better way to continue "occupying" than to consciously support small local business rather than "exploitative" corporations.
I'll acknowledge that there are pros and cons to all forms of thought. and that in someway, like the reasons you pointed out, consumerism can be good. Additionally, as I hope that my post reflects, that I don't believe that there is anything intrinsically bad about the dollar bill or even capitalism. All the users that are associating this thread with the Occupy movement are sort uneducated and presumptuous. (lol rummy0 ;P)
Quality post as usual yurgen however, I can't help but feel that you've completely missed the topic of the thread at hand.

When we discuss societal issues, "ought to" philosophical questions, or any prescriptive questions for that matter at hand, we must realize that the answers to these questions are purely subjective in nature and that hypocrisies should be expected; Furthermore, we must acknowledge that things can be both A and B and C and D. And not necessarily "either/or" A or B. And that the pros and the cons must be discussed openly and freely if we truly want a well-reasoned conclusion.
...But that's only if we are serious to the idea of discussion and concerned about coming to a well-reasoned conclusion that considersmultiple perspectives.
Additionally, we as humans can't help but be hypocritical br0. If we didn't take the time to reflect upon on our beliefs and re-adjust them we'd be stuck forever in a single frame of thinking and thusly deter any growth in our thought and potentially our growth towards maturity.

You're a fucking consumer, and yes you can do something about it. If you don't like it go live in the mountains with monks, or shut the fuck up and your god damn M&M's and love your fat American country for what it is. Or better yet, get off the fucking internet.
Otherwise your PHILLY CHEESE STAKE SOPHICAL bullshit will never matter. You're just stating the obvious.

Oh Strength, you've proven that you actually haven't read my posts in this thread and are whole-heartedly committed to a single mode of thinking.
