I personally would just get any mp3 player. You probably won't fit in with all the 'cool' apple slaves with that but it does the job of playing music just as well as any expensive piece of apple garbage.

Well I may be pushing it by calling apple garbage but Apple products are fairly reliable and decent but they come with a price while you can just get a decent mp3 player for no more than $20

Get an iPhone on contract. It makes calls, plays music, goes on the internet, all the good smartphone stuff. Alternatively, get a Blackberry or any other smartphone. They are phones, but they can can do whatever an mp3 player can and more. Just expect to spend a bit more dosh.

If you're skint, though, just get an mp3 player. They're cheap nowadays.

If you listen to a lot of music, I don't think you could get much better value than a 160gb iPod Classic. If you don't need that much memory, it might be worth looking into cheaper brands.

OP, I'm guessing you're like 14 otherwise you wouldn't even be asking for an MP3 player.

Just wait until your "old enough" for a cell phone, buy a large storage card, and voilà! You will then have both a media player and phone. No need for a separate device to listen to music on.

Unless of course you don't want to risk getting your phone taken at school. That is always a freakin' hassle.

I've owned a few Sansa .mp3 players and I love them. Easy to use, as good as an ordinary ipod (fraction of the price) and very easy to hack up/modify with third party software.

As a Mac user, I recommend a Philips. iTunes is a chore to use, and the price is horrible. The earbuds are extremely expensive and also very poor quality. My best MP3 player was from Sony, but Sonicstage is a billion times worse than iTunes.

I actually have to be selective. I use Rhapsody To Go and there are only so many supported players to choose from. I chose an iPod though because I like to play games and other shit like that, plus it was an excellent time-waster on my trip to Montana.

Forgot to mention... you also don't need a "store" or program to put music on it, just drag and drop files into the "Music" folder and you're set.

Also, my iPod Shuffle is broken, but I suspect my sister put it through the laundry so that's not Apple's fault.
I currently use an iPod Touch, but that's a whole different kind of device.

If you're anything else, get an ipod

Good to know that you consider anyone that's not willing to drop over $100 on a media player an impoverished urban youth.

If you really need a MP3 player that will last for years, that will distract you during your longest wait times, and that will entertain you when you're bored, get an iPod Touch.

It made my transport time to work acceptable.

Yeah, you can even read books and magazines on it. I love the thing.
