I have SNES an N64, a GameCube and an Xbox. All work perfectly fine. And then... the PS3. I had the first model, the fat ps3. Then it broke... my father fixed it the best he could, then it broke again 2 months later. So he bought the small shit ps3. And now I have a problem with the reader.
So that's two disonctional pieces of crap... first console was released in 2006 or whatever... I can't remember, than the smal ps3 was released a year later... or something like that.
So... I have two shitty gaming systems... all were released in the second half of the last decade. And they are broken.
But downstairs lies a SNES. A fucking console that was released in 1991 if my memory is correct. And my brother is playing on it right now. Works perfectly fine.
Now guys... tell me what the fuck is wrong with that? Except the fact that the supposedly Hi-tech shitstem is getting his ass endend to him by a 16-bit console of the early 90's.
Inb4 Xbox fanboys drop in, your gaming system is not way better. We all remember the shitty circle of death....
Reading this back, I realise there is at least 15 mistakes and misspelled words... Sorry about that... I guess my final exams are fucking my brain up...

We all know that the new-gen systems aren't durable for shit...
It's to point out the fact that this is a big non-sense.
How can such a rich company have so little respect for the consumer. We pay big bucks for this and there can only be two explanations why this is happenning.
1- They make cheap gaming systems on purpose. Which is wrong, definitely. A compagny like Sony is rich enough, they make millions and millions of profit. They absolutely cannot justify something like making a cheap system so it will break and you will have to buy another one. Basically they would be stealing money from much lesser fortunate people then them
2- They can't make it any better. And that my friend! Would be very sad! If they can't make it any better, than it's their job to refund or give us another console for free. Considering that this is their fault, they should make up for it.
I had an xbox (gettin another on Christmas hopefully) and shit its no better. You pick it up and there goes your $60 game you just bought last week.
I agree with you how strange consoles are so sensitive these days when alll the last gen systems besides the gamecube's corrupt data issues had virtually no issue working I still have my fat PS2 with the noisy fan from 2001 works like a charm.

Okay, so your PS3 broke down. Which means that all PS3's have shitty durability. That's what you're getting at, right? Because I've had my PS3 for 2 years, and it's gone through many bumpy care rides and it's fallen off of my dresser once, but it's never EVER broken down and only had a few malfunctions. But never anything fatal.

I guess you're just unlucky man, I've had mine for over a year now. Hell it wasn't even new in the first place, I bought it off my cousin, who also actually got it used himself... so i'm supposedly the third owner of this thing, and its not one of those new slim models that came out a couple years ago, its one of those old fat ones with the loud fan.
I'm on my second PS3, and my fifth 360. At least my ps3 lasted 3 years before it finally broke down. Your PS3 probably just needs a new laser, which isn't terribly expensive to get fixed, so at least you don't need to buy a new system.

Like I said, I had two different PS3, both have problems. First just won't start anymore and the second has problems reading discs.
Now I'm not trying to generalize from my own experience only. There is a series of video on YouTube about the Yellow Light Of Death for the fat PS3. It was a common problem. The system just wouldn't start anymore. We couldn't even get the disc to come out, I had to force it out.
Now I don't know if the disc reading issues are only happenning to me, but I doubt it.
Fact is that these systems generally have a much shorter life span that all the previous gaming system. Even your example doesn't proove your point. You only had it for 2 years. Just wait, these shits are worst than cars...

Yeah, changing just the lens might not cost too much, but if I ask Sony to do it, then it will cost a lot of money... But if I get it done by someone else, than it's like breaking the owner's license rule or some shit with Sony and they won't help you with your system if you do so.
So you're a nintendroid then? The xbox 360 is the superior console to the wii since the wii has no games and the 360 does.

I don't own a Wii...
The Wii is not a good console. It doesn't have a good library of games, the graphics are bad and the online experience is shitty.
But I didn't compare the PS3 and the Xbox360 to the Wii, I compared them to the SNES and the N64. Which are far more durable consoles.
That was a great post. Right Zach?

Yeah well, like it was mentionned before, I can still get the lens fixed and hope for the best.

Damn right! That might be because all of my childhood I had video games cartridges, but too me, this is the only true form of a video game.
Could be that since it's more technologically advanced, more could go wrong with the hardware (since there's more of it). I haven't had any issues at all with my PS3/360/Wii, but I've heard of enough cases of dysfunctional units from other people that it does seem like more than pure coincidence.
But yeah, of all the consoles that I've owned (and I've owned all the major ones since the release of the Sega Genesis), the only system that's just stopped working was the original Xbox. Thing was too big for its own good.
My PS3 has broken down on me twice.
And I still love it to death. Free online, great games, and less 12-year-old children in my lobbies.
Obviously those are not the only things, but yeah, you get the point.

Well I'm glad you're not a nintendo fanboy. I can't stand any of those fanboys who say "oh M$ & $ony 0nly maek gaems 4 teh moneyz nd Nintendo maeks games 2 maek m3 h4ppy!!!!!" Believe me, they get on my nerves.
Anyways, I guess some of us have trouble adapting with today's games. Now a lot of games are starting to get worse and worse (I fear the Halo series will be going bad due to the stupid community in the 343 forum). However, some games are getting better within each sequel (Assassin's Creed and Batman Arkham series to name a couple).
My Wii broke after 3 years of use and I also still have a working SNES.
Fucking consoles, man, don't make em how they used to.
The only console which has ever broken on me was a Playstation 2 that was left on for a week.
Everything else, including my 360, PS3 and Wii, has remained fully functional.

Yeah well that's how shit works on our beloved capitalist free market. They don't abide to any rules except for one... sell more shit, make more money for the lowest cost.
The thing we should do to show them were unhappy with their products is stop buying them. But that won't happen anytime soon. Consumers are the least organized group in the world. We buy shit, it breaks, we get pissed and just to show these compagnies how bad they are... we go buy another one...

Uhh.. Yeah. 'Fuck the system!', and all that jazz..
Ikea sells furniture that fall apart after 2 years. Durable things don't sell.

Fuck the system or keep getting fucked. You're at the bottom of the hierarchy and you can't do shit about it. So when a huge corporation sells you crap, what do you do? You go buy some more, complain a little about it and get fucked again in two or three years.
I guess you're just unlucky. I've had my ps3 for about 3-4 years now, and it never broke.
But my first ps2 broke after 1.5 years, and then my second one have lasted for 5 years or more
I guess there is a lot more power generated by these current consoles and due to the complexity of which they are built there is more room for stuff to go wrong. Old consoles didn't even need fans.
For I am and forever shall be... a master ruseman.
I still have my 80GB Model working fine. I've had this model for 3 years now and I always worry whether it'll die on me one day.
All new systems suck at being able to last anyway. When I got my first Xbox 360 it died on me within 9 months. I made sure that it was in a good position and made sure that there was no dust or anything else which could damage it and it still died.
This is also the reason why I'm not going to be buying another console. I just don't trust any company if their consoles can't even last me as long as my old ones can. I had my PS2 for ages and it was fine and it never had any problems, the same goes for my PS1 as well.
the problem is you of course some bad ones are there in a bunch somebody must of dropped when being delivered to the store and shit you have the worst of luck
Honestly speaking, sony's always made crap consoles. The PS3 is probably the most durable system they've ever put out. The first Playstation was made of cheap plastic parts that would wear out because they were too close to the power supply. Sony had a class action lawsuit brought against it because of so many people got disc read errors on the PS2. The slim model was notorious for having a power supply that would catch on fire.
Yeah, it sucks that manufacturers put out inferior consoles because they're cheap, but you probably should have seem it coming.
Happy with what you have to be happy with
you have to be happy with what you have

I don't know. My 'fat' PS3 I got on the original release date is still working perfectly fine as the day I got it. Either you have terrible bad luck or you're shit at looking after consoles properly.
