No, not in the slightest. The twenty-fourth Sura actually explicitly forbids rape and says that God forgives them of any sex out of wedlock that was not consentual (i.e. rape or being sold into sexual slavery, etc.)

What's more, a woman has the right to divorce her husband according to the Qur'an. Among Shi'ites, there must be witnesses to the declaration of divorce and a waiting period, where they're encouraged to reconcile and must abstain from relations with each other or others.

Among Sunnis it's much simpler practice, the practice where they can simply declare "Talaq!" three times to formally end the marriage. This is not in the Qur'an, however.

I actually know quite a bit about this because I've researched this for years and had lengthy debates in the past on the content of the Qur'an. To be fair I agree with you on the twisting part. Unfortunately it's what every society has done with every important piece of paper we've ever had. Look at us in America: we do the exact same thing with our own constitution and the varying statements of our founding fathers.

As to the implications of the laws of Islam being applied to a society, mind you this hasn't always been a bad thing. Under Muhammad, for instance, or during the Caliphate of Ali this proved to be a highly enlightened and beneficial governance.

Unfortunately overemphasis of some concepts while downplaying or completely ignoring other concepts, as well as basing a lot of their laws on rumors and semantic wrangling of hadith or old Arab traditions (the triple Talaq actually being one such example) has rather proven to rob Islamic jurisprudence of any of its real benefit.

That coupled as well with the fact that the laws of Islam are intended for the state of humanity in the seventh century. The Qur'an is actually better suited because the laws of the Evangel and the Torah were revealed for their respective ages and state of humanity, along with the revelations of the other Prophets.

I happen to believe that the age of Quranic law ended in 1844 with the advent of the Báb, and the dispensation of the Bab to have existed specifically to set the stage for the advent of Baha'u'llah, the Manifestation of God for the present era.
