Ever notice how in many series, there would be a character who either looked gay (maybe he is gay) or drawn like a woman. Not to mention in the latter's case, the characters would even be voiced by women, leading to confusion.

Such as Yu Yu Hakusho for example, it fooled the Filipino dub and they thought Kurama is a girl and you can guess what happened.

Do the illustrators have a thing for traps or was it something else?

Kurama always looked like a dude to me. But then there's Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin who both look very similar.

Asian men just look like women, not surprising it reflects in their animation.

Jakotsudefinitely fits this.

What I always found weird about male anime characters is whenever there was a pool, swimming, or just a scene involving water. When they went shirtless they have no belly buttons or nipples. What the fuck?

There's a term for that... Bishonen. It doesn't necessarily mean effeminate, but 'pretty boy' or something along those lines. It always ends up looking effeminate though.

Apparently that's just their standard for beauty? Looking rugged and manly with a big square jaw isn't beautiful, I guess.

So every asian men look like women? Whoa boy...

Anyway how can you explain Hideyoshi? Granted it was a running gag for that series however since he even shared the same VA with a character from Lucky Star. Then there's Shaka from Saint Seiya, seriously don't tell me he doesn't look like a woman.

In Shaka's case, I really doubt there would be men looking like that, but then again who knows. Anime can cover non-Asians and there would still be a feminine looking men being drawn.

It's pretty hilarious.

They did that on Yu Yu Hakusho as well, especially when Yusuke was about to fight against Toguro in the tournament.

Made me wonder if it's a result of laziness or something else.

Everyone's aware of what it is, still doesn't change the fact that they still come across as effeminate. One of my previous threads even brought up why they receive tons of fan girls.

Wilde was a real life example and he's also gay...

Most anime characters are drawn as girls. For some reason girls like sissy men.

I guess that James from Pokemon counts as an effeminate male character. That's the only one I'm aware of.

Not most but yeah, they tend to have plenty of fan girls.

Often times these characters would become one of the most popular in the series they're in among fan girls.

That's why there's a joke in the Yugioh abridged series regarding Bakura.

Actually OP, Hiei was gay for Kurama. So you're not completely wrong. I think they draw men with more feminine features because it's considered more attractive because it's generally considered that women have more beautiful bodies than men; both in face and in body. There's even a term for such a guy: bishie.

I admit that I've fallen for traps before. But I can't help it that they're so attractive!

Japanese men look like women anyway, standards of manly change from place to place.
