I challenge Archawn to LEAK one of his AS3 classes on the thread. THATS RIGHT. DO IT.

Art is looking good all 'round here!
Too bad one of the artists on my team dropped out yesterday...he just disappeared, even though he had been pretty active, and before we had started working he had said he's expecting to win....yeah fuckin right eh.

How much ad revenue do game jam games generally make? I feel like if a game gets a good score, wins a daily award, does well in the jam, and/or is frontpaged it has a pretty good chance of making well over $20, making me think that it's well worth putting an ad in the preloader and temporarily "distracting" the player while the game is loading.
Thoughts?
Well, On Icy Cave of Frustration from Game Jam 2, which got 114,000 views, since January the game has made nearly made $50, with 35 bucks in the first month alone. I dunno, but I don't think you should take out ads just because it "ruins the mood".

So you're basically saying that $50 is totally worth ruining the mood of your game. Wow, you really do care for games as an art-form.

Art makes money, the ads are just there to help out. Art also needs money in order to continue. So shush about all of the elitist bull-shit and have fun with it guys. Stop being a bunch of whiny hipsters

you call this whining? :\ basically ANY KIND of debate makes you a whiny hipster right? =)

haha you dont know how much this made me laugh. great shit!
also im still impressed ive managed to do fine with only 3 hours of sleep even tough im tired as fuck now.
love everyone telling me they will be tired at school. does anyone have to go to work tomorrow? it almost feels like im the only one, i shouldnt really worry about all those dead lines at my job ive got tomorrow - i should be more concerned about finding some free time playing our FINISHED game but thank god rendering always takes ages and is a great excuse :)
I keep getting errors with the new API. It says my API Id is invalid. Does it have to get approved first or what?

I'm pretty sure it's only ads/medals that you need approved first, however, if they are not approved that should not be causing errors.
What are the errors you are getting?
[Newgrounds API] :: ====== Newgrounds API v3.0.7 beta AS2 ======
[Newgrounds API] :: Invalid API ID: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Obviously I don't get the x's
Nevermind, it works now... Weird. My internet may not have been working properly, or something stupid like that.

How does it ruin the mood of a game? It's just a thing that plays before the game starts.
And good bye Game Jam!
My team is no longer participating, but I'll post up what we have so far in like 10-15 minutes, just gotta get one last thing working!
The reason is one of the artists dropped out, which put a lot of strain on the other artist, and then I couldn't map out the maps for collision stuff until I had the backgrounds, and we needed more puzzles anyways...
It was fun while it lasted! And now we're going to finish 'er up this week, and make a big bag of gold!

Lol the way it was panning out, it was becoming less debate and more of an argument on selling out, then eventual flame war. So yes whining ;P
also yes art needs money... but mood and feel is important too.. and i don't wanna give that up for 50$ :\
What mood are you giving up by putting an add in a preloader? :\
WOOT, SHOW OFF TIME.

hey everyone! I had never participated in anything on newgrounds and I haven't used flash since college in 2007 so It was good getting back into it. Unfortunately our coder wasn't able to spend much time on the game and didn't get involved the first two days so we won't have anything finished by deadline.
Was good actually doing SOMETHING on newgrounds though! I really enjoy this community and hopefully I can be more involved soon.
Here is a quick screenshot of a level that didn't get finished, perhaps we'll finish it later.
CONCERNING ADS: My team for the previous game jam made about 150,- each from ad rev, and then another 360 each from sponsorship. (including intro logo's)
not trying to brag at all, but this does make participating in a game jam also commercially viable. I.e. It makes it worth it for me to not work for a couple of days even though I need the money. I also don't see how it tremendously ruins the mood of a game; in fact getting paid might actually give you the push you need to come back and fix some bugs thereby IMPROVING the game.
also @psvils: that sucks man, but surely at this point in the jam you can finish up a game with one less artist? but yeah, dropouts suck
@ everyone: Best of luck these last hours!

it's just me and the programmer in my team and you'll see what we've managed to do >:)
