Hey, it's not gonna get signed. That's political suicide.
Also, there are things in it that prevent complete unlawful detaining.
Well.
Shit.

What rights? You mean ones like the right to assemble as long as your movement remains ineffective? What a shame all rights are gone with the passing of this bill.
Ho hum ... well, I have nothing else to do now that I've heard this striking news posted on NG.
Who wants to Occupy McDonald's? I'm kinda hungry now that all my rights are gone.

I'm game. I could go for a McChicken inside two Mcdoubles. Don't worry, we'll protest for free food so you don't need money.
Well.
Shit.

As blatantly unconstitutional as the bill may be, it doesn't surprise me in the least.
Fortunately, I haven't come across anything verifying that S. 1867 has been passed yet. Hopefully it will be revised with some Amendments added.
It's also nice to see other infamous bills such as Protect IP Act and Stop Online Piracy Act still stalled out on the House floor. Maybe there is still some hope after all...

Representative Lamar Smith admitted that the bill he proposed (SOPA) was a mistake, stating that maybe he does not know how the internet works.
I don't think we should worry about this bill anymore...

This doesn't seem like a big deal....?
UNLESS the term terrorist applies to Tea Partiers and politicians like Ron Paul, then we could have a major, major problem.
Trust me, this has been done in Minnesota.

There are also parts which give the president and secretary defense, power to institute martial law.
When a military takes over a town, city, or state, and has the ability to arrest people without a warrant, that sounds like Martial Law, to me.

I did read somewhere that the fed. gov. has a "shoot to kill" hit on Ron Paul, if he became pres. because he wants to get rid of the Fed. Reserve. I don't know if it is true, or not, it's just a rumor I heard going around.
Hard to tell with rumors. This bill itself, isn't much of an issue, most of it regards federal spending, military spending, military programs, education programs, etc. Some of the bill I actually think is a good idea, such as the military to teachers program. However, it's certain amendments, particularly those in section 1030-1040 that have me nervous.
This bill gives a lot of funding/power to our military, and I for one am for cutting funding to certain parts of our military, and for limiting the power/role of our military. This bill puts counter-terrorism efforts/military power on the home front, instead of overseas, and that worries me.
It calls for building tons of military bases here at home, and for increasing our security. In a way, it's a good idea, but if military troops are allowed to be implemented in a martial law setting, we are doomed.
What particularly worries me is the reaction/backlash to the occupy wallstreet movements. This makes the possibility of martial law, that much more real to me. Not to say it will happen, but when they start issuing military forces to go into areas of a city/suburb, I'm getting the fuck out of this country as fast as I can.

Left, right, it doesn't matter. I don't trust either democrats or republicans.(granted, I am a libertarian, and a moderate socialist, myself, but hey)

Let's not worry ourselves over the implications of this law unless it is signed by the President, OK?

Lol how are you libertarian and socialist at the same time? They're almost opposites.
