Copyright question 2011-11-24 12:56:45 Reply

I thought I should ask in this forum. So I have this site which shows photos from other urls, but it just tunnels em there, aka they're not hosted on my server. Is it illegal for me to show them? If not, I wonder if those without URL on them are ok (like the source of the image). I'm ofc not in any way altering photo.

Thanks art - lovers

Well, technically the person could claim they're copyrighted and have you remove them.
On the other hand, when you put images online, you're pretty much putting up for fair claims use.

And the majority of websites use pictures found elsewhere.

Yeah, it's pretty super illegal.

It's probably technically illegal (depending on the image and whether or not the makers of said images chose to make them creative commons), but I imagine people will send you take-down requests if they mind your usage before you get into any real trouble.

Putting images online does not by any means make it legally up for grabs though, it's just that most of the time people don't care and sites will take them down if you ask. I'd assume someone else holds copyright unless the image is really old or marked with permissions to use freely, though.

I should msot liekly also note that they msot likely won't be happy if you do that. Not because of teh copyright issues, but because you are spending their bandwidth that way, effectively costing them money.
