Can you give me tips on graffiti?

I just started out but i don't know how you can make it look good without using more then one color when your making your name without stencils aka 'tagging'

I also want to try to make a piece or a blockbuster but it seems like only if your a pro you can do that.
what did you start off by doing?

Start on paper. Look at styles that you like and mimic them on paper.

Tagging often times has its own font, the key is figureing it out (when text is involved).

How legible do you want the font, how big or small, do you want any extra bits and stylizations?

Find someone's stuff you like and use their font to spell out what you want first. Once you have that down tweak it, modify it, warp it. Make it your own and not just some copied style. Pay attention to what they do that you like (and what they don't do that you wish they did). Take the best elements and go from there.

All of this before you even pick up a can of spray paint or glue.

Once you have a definite style that you are happy with you can either make a stencil of it (if applicable, not all styles warrant a stencil) or you will be good enough at it that making it again in spray paint shouldn't be too hard if you practice on cardboard boxes first.

And keep in mind, dont put it anywhere illegal.

everytime i try to make impact or comic sans it looks like a whole different font lmao
I don't know how banksy does it.

You could always print the font onto sheets of paper, and then glue those to cardboard and cut them out. And then you have stencils.

Not a bad idea but it's whenever i cut it with scissors i seem to just ruin the text anyways.

but not before many trolls who can't do art for shit come by and say "PIECE OF SHIT" without adding any sort of constructive criticism. These people should usually be ignored unless they explain to you WHY it's a piece of shit and HOW you should fix it. Just like on any art forum but /ic/ is plagued by it.
