I think I believe in ghosts.

Just recently, I thought that my bedroom was haunted by a ghost...strange things happened in it. I felt like I was being watched, and I still sometimes do. My alarm clock would be in the "off" position despite my setting it to the "on" position the night before. I'm pretty sure that my alarm clock can't turn off by itself; nothing in the manual said anything about that. Also, I wouldn't say that it takes a lot of strength to turn off my alarm clock, as opposed to hitting the "snooze" button, but it does take a bit of effort. You have to press it down and to the "off" position.

I don't know how my alarm clock would do that automatically.

Also, I do occasionally wake up with scratches on my arms, and I often hear strange sounds, as if someone is walking slowly in the hallway(The floors are a little creaky). I won't say that this proves there's a ghost, but these events have forced me to keep an open mind and consider the possibility that ghosts may exist. Even now, I feel as if I'm being watched while typing this post.

I do not believe in human spirits roaming the mortal Earth, but I believe in demons (fallen angels). They are not the same thing, and I wouldn't call either "ghosts". I do believe that demons affect us psychologically into believing that a supernatural presence is in a room (or house, etc.), but they are not "restless spirits". This is one of the reasons I believe people who have no belief of ghosts whatsoever are much less likely to experience an encounter with one. I believe demons choose to harass people who are already afraid of the supernatural.

So, you could say I do not believe in ghosts, but I believe that experiences with "them" are real. I cannot rationalize ghosts along with the Biblical account of death and the afterlife.

Honestly I am quite open minded on this topic. I have a few stories to back myself up, but then again - none of this ghost business is scientifically proved, which leaves us only to speculate on this topic and share our haunted experiences

Attempt to communicate with it. If you don't have a microphone or a camcorder, prompt it to knock once for yes, two for no, and so on. Learn it's identity, and then find out the history of the place you live in.

Then spend a great deal of time at an actual haunted location in pure disbelief. Toy with them, and see if you gain any response to reaffirm your position, Unless you're frightened the experience will enlighten you to an entirely new train of thought. If you have nothing to fear, you have no shit to lose.

Where, exactly? Would you dismiss the possibility that maybe this place isn't very active?

I would prefer to destroy it and/or get it out of my home. If it's here, it's simply not welcome.

I believe it is definitely possible ghosts/spirits exist. You see I'm not an Atheist or a Christian.

I'm irreligious/agnostic. For me the absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence. And I apply this to nearly everything in life.

Here is an example:

The Lochness monster might be real but it might not be. Its hard to tell. It could be completely true, completely false, or it could have elements of truth and falseness (mutations, deep sea science/phenomenon etc.)

HOWEVER, I don't apply it to every single thing.

If some douche says he has a UFO in his backyard but its invisible then I don't have to apply this...cause the chances of him actually being correct are VERY low.

Double-post (I think.)

My mum and dad once went to a party and they used a Ouija board and they came across what was apparently a 5 or 6 year old boy from Japan who died in the WWII nuclear bombs (or it might have been a demonic/evil/lying/prankster spirit as retarded as that sounds.)

And at one point it was only my mum actually using the board and I don't believe she would make up something like this (and I'm dead serious on that, there is nothing eccentric or untrustable about her.)

Also my dad is a somewhat pessimistic/negative atheist yet because of this moment he actually believes in ghosts and/or spirits.

Also I was watching some thing on t.v awhile back about ghosts and it was a really interesting show, they came across a 'ghost' (it might have been bullshit, mind you there are so many episodes of the show and it doesn't seem like they are actors, but its still possible its all bullshit)

And the ghost was apparently the ghost of a mentally retarded boy called Robert from the 1800's who was locked in his room and he starved to death, cause apparently people didn't care much about people with mental disabilities back then.

Like I said it could be bullshit but who knows

This has little to do with the conversation. "We don't know, but we're working on it" is good enough. It's being explored with sound scientific method.

With a bewilderingly idiotic mentality like this, there can be no progression. Never reproduce.

At 11/21/11 03:08 AM, ArthurGhostly wrote: But if ghosts exist where's the cut off point? Do only people become ghosts? Or do animals?

There's lots of accounts of animal hauntings. This lady owns a candle shop where this doctor killed monkeys in the basement, and no shit, the basement is haunted by a monkey. I know that sounds ridiculous, but if true, that adds to the theory that animal spirits can maintain a form after death. How about this one here, where a lighthouse at Fairport Harbor is haunted by a cat.

If animals do, why don't insects and plants?

If it takes great trauma and extreme circumstances for a soul to maintain an essence throughout the afterlife, 1) how can an insect or plant generate enough power for that to happen, and 2) I imagine if they DID somehow become spirits, that would be even MORE difficult to find. What, are you going to do, listen for an EVP of a cricket chirp? That's just silly, I don't think they're in an echelon that could match the personality and sentience of animals and people. Or here's a thought; who cares about the spirits of grass and crickets? We wouldn't be able to learn dick from that.

Why don't people get haunted by their dead skin cells?

Why don't you add pubic hair and semen onto the list, that'll be original.

Why are ghosts commonly reported to be wearing period clothes? Why does that one specific point in time have a high amount of ghosts?

Dude, there's a much broader field of hauntings than you're imagining. Take the USS Lexington for example, an aircraft carrier that sailed through the Pacific theater in World War 2. It saw some heavy shit, and where it lays decommissioned at Corpus Christi, TX, people are finding out it's one of the most haunted modern ships ever. In the rare instances people do see full body apparitions, they're in period World War 2 Naval uniforms. If someone died in 2002 and is still haunting the house or apartment to this day, they aren't going to deck themselves out in petticoats or big hats.

Where are all the dinosaur ghosts?

Yeah okay. When we get bored with regular ghosts, we're going to dig deep down into the crust and keep an eye out for the elusive spirits of Raptors and Triceratops. If we listen close enough with our digital recorder, we might catch an EVP of a Stegosaurus' throaty bark.

What bullshit reasoning is this? I could cite advances in astronomy and quantum physics that could faceplant that sentence. With science and technology, the previously impossible to prove is investigated, and those experiments or investigations garner evidence...and the same could apply to ghosts of the past, if only there were patient scientists willing to blow the lid off of something MANY actually believe to be true through their own undeniable experiences.

I've gotten a picture of a ghost on cam before. It was pretty sweet. You can tell they are real because matter doesn't just dissappear, thus their energy has to go somewhere, case closed.

In my opinion, they exist. I've had numerous encounters in my old house; would wake up to people in my room, shadow-like figures walking around the house, hearing muffled talking, etc. Mind you, that was when I was around the ages of 12 - 14, so I think I've grown out of it, or they stopped communicating. None the less, I do believe in ghosts.

when i was a kid i always had this weird thought that when people die, they have 3 choices,

1. they can wait in "afterlife" ( im agnostic so i wont call it heaven and i also dont want to cause a religion war ) for the rest of their family and friends to spend eternity as "spirits" or whatever you want to call it

2. they can be reincarniated

3. they can come back as a "ghost or spirit" and haunt or try to show their presence known to whomever they like

and has noone else made a ghostbusters joke?

ghosts don't exist in my standard model.

all the weird sensations one experience can be explained in terms of infrasound. also, for some reason, ghosts don't want to interact with the surroundings in daytime, when there are a lot of people around and we all feel comfortable.

if i were the spirit and wished to be noticed, i would indicate my presence when there are most people around.
